Digitalcameraworld: New cameras are not getting any better!

Share

Digitalcameraworld compared the Image Quality of the last generation Sony A7rV cameras and concludes:

Evidently improvements in sensor tech – at least in terms of core stills image quality – have been slowing in recent years. Instead, we now see the likes of Sony marketing other features, like the speed of a sensor’s readout, and its corresponding impact on burst shooting speed and video capture performance.

I see no surprise in this: Focus has been on offering better video quality, autofocus and frame speed, more “vlogger” features and so forth. Still, I believe Image Quality major improvements are still possible! I see a lot of Sony patents around “foveon” alike sensor that could give quite a big bump in terms of resolution and dynamic range. And there might be some other tech on the horizon that we haven’t spoken about it yet!

Laowa 28mm f/1.2 Argus review by SonyAlphaBlog: You either hate it or love it

Share

Laowa 28mm at BHphoto and Amazon US&EU.

SonyAlphaBlog tested the fastest 28mm FF lens you can buy and concluded:

The Laowa 28mm F1.2 (750 euros) is the fastest 28mm available in the market. Like all extreme lenses F0.95/F1.2) comprises have been made to favour aesthetic over classical rendering.
The lens is very well built but is fully manual. A switch allow to have a clickless aperture ring for video
The sharpness is good wide open in the centre with a nice soft background blur at 50cm and a good color rendering. unfortunately the corners are quite bad and the lens suffers from strong field curvature, high vignetting and low resistance to flare. Also the bokeh at long distance is uneven : soft in the centre and quite busy in the corners due to the field curvature.
You like it for its character and unique rendering or you hate it

Sony source shared some Nikon ZF specs: 46Mp and $1999?

Share

A source that shared the correct Sony ZV-1F specs in the past shared some details about the Nikon ZF (watch my video above). This camera wants to appeal to photographers that love to own a camera with a more “classic” look. This puts it into direct competition with the soon to be announced Sony A7cII and A7cR that have will tap into the same pool of photographers. If the rumors specs are correct I hope Sony will take note of this and also price the new A7c camera at a competitive price!
