New Sony patent discloses the design of a new 800mm f/5.6 and 400mm f/4 GM lens

Share

A new Sony lens patent has been published yesterday (Source Asobinet). it discloses the design of five GM lenses:

  • 400mm f/2.8 (available at Amazon, BHphoto)
  • 400mm f/4.0 (more affordable version of the existing f/2.8 GM)
  • 500mm f/4.0
  • 600mm f/4.0  (available at Amazon, BHphoto)
  • 800mm f/5.6

A patent is not proof that Sony will actually mass produce these lenses. But it definitely shows that Sony is thinking about making them. I would be happy if Sony would produce an 800mm f/5.6 and you?

First leaked image of the new Sony 50-150mm f/2.0 GM lens!

Share

Here is the first exclusive leaked image of  the new Sony 50-150mm f/2.0 GM lens!

Specs:

  • Weight: 1340g
  • Length: 200mm (same length and very similar body of the Sony 70-200mm GM II
  • 50-150 2.0 GM is slightly bigger than the Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0-2.8
  • It’s white
  • shipment start: beginning of June
  • Price: 4400 Euro
  • Announcement probably on April 23?

So this lens will be a bit heavier, bigger and a lot more expensive than the Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0 (which, by the way, is on super-discount at BHphoto, Amazon, Adorama). Of course the Sony is expected to have superior image quality, autofocus performance and the f/2.0 constant aperture will be useful in video and for extreme bokeh fanatics ;)

I’m still not sure about the announcement date, but it will probably be the 23rd of April. This is the only new product we should get, but keep in mind that Sony announced two new cameras in December/January. So it could be that we’ll see a new FX or a new A7V camera announced in May/June!

More about that in my next rumor updates ;)

In the meantime let me know in the comment system what you think about this mighty and expensive Sony 50-150mm f/2.0 GM.

Sony 50-150mm f/2.0 reorder links (open on April 23): Amazon, BHphoto, Fotoerhardt, Fotokoch, WexUK.
