Photorend interviewed Kota Misawa, Marketing Planning manager in the Imaging Products BU at Tamron.
A couple of key info he shared:
About the Tamron Utility and possible iOS APP:
The Tamron Lens Utility was updated on September 21 last year, improving operability and supporting Z-mount lenses. And we plan to update the app twice this year. New functions will be added.
On the other hand, regarding the version for iOS, we have difficulty doing so. It’s quite difficult to develop.
About the possibility of making fast prime lenses:
For now, we cannot say what our roadmap will be. But if there is strong demand for wide aperture prime lenses from our users, we will definitely look into this topic.
About adding an aperture ring on future lenses:
We believe that whether or not to add the aperture ring depends on the concept of each lens and the target audience. Until now, we have favored compactness and lightness.
But we would like to consider adding one for users who need an aperture ring. It is therefore possible that we will develop this type of objectives in the future.
About video optimized lenses:
Absolutely, we think that suppressing focus breathing , quiet motors and autofocus tracking performance are more important than just focusing speed. And we would like to strengthen these aspects in the future as well, while adapting to the most advanced cases.
As you know the latest financial report disclosed that Tamron wants to launch six new lenses in 2024. But not all of them will be new lenses. Some of them will be Z or X-mount version of current E-mount lenses.
