It is very likely that the upcoming A7sIV and/or FX3II will record 4k240p

A reader just went me this interesting technical note:

If you check the latest Sony paper on XAVC codec released November 2023, they mention the bitrate of 4K 240fps, which so far no camera can do. This could be a hint about next a7s4/FX3II. It does 4K 240fps using XAVC HE codec (h265) at 480Mbps in 4:2:0 which could work with V90 SD cards and 4K 240fps at 800Mbps in 4:2:2 and that would require Cfexpress.
Check page 7 in this PDF, there you can find info for both 8K 120fps and 4K 240fps. So codec-wise sony is ready for those frame rates.

Yes, I do think 4k240p will be available coin future Sony cameras. My real question now is…will there be a A7sIV or will this series merge into the future Sony FX3II?

Wild rumors roundup: New A7sIV, New FX50/60 and 24-105mm G OSS II lens

About those rumors: I have no idea who sent them and 90% of the times they turn out to be wrong. But, it happened in the past that a couple of those were right. So I will post them today, and we all together can eventually keep track of this. If one of the sources turns out to be right than we will know we can trust it a bit more!

Source 1:

Two different Sony employees at Sony Support and one at the Sony store assured me there would be a new, improved (smaller, lighter, sharper) 24-105mm f/4.0 G OSS lens, but no ETA or price yet.

Source 2:

New Sony Sensor for A7S4, FX4, FX8 cameras
2 layer sensor super good low light
Better Dynamic Range

To crush Z6III, Z8 cameras and Canon R5 MKII

Source 3:

Had a private conversation Sony’s Cinema Line product manager. No FX6II or FX3II for a couple of years. They are still selling well and there’s still lots of potential in firmware updates. No plans at all for FX9II at the moment. I asked if the next FX cam would be S35, like FX60 or something and got “no comment” with a smile.

Reviewed at SonyAlphaBlog: Sony 300mm f/2.8 GM including testing with TC1.4 and TC2.0

Preorders: Sony 300mm at BHphoto. Amazon US&EU. Adorama. FotoErhardt. Fotokoch. Calumet. WexUK.

SonyAlphaBlog reviewed the new lens and concluded:

If you are a sports, wildlife or fashion photographer, the Sony 300mm F2.8 GM OSS (6700 euros) is your dream lens.

For Sports photographers the A9III and its 120fps will allow you to get the right shoot for indoor sports or in a stadium with exceptional AF tracking and low light capabilities
For Wildlife photographers , they will benefit from the 61Mpix of the A7RIV / A7RV for further cropping
For Fashion it will allow to completely blur out the background and have very nice 3D effects

With the TC1.4 performance stays excellent , whereas for TC2.0 it become more difficult to us with only very good results wide open and ISO climbing fast if you close to F8 and keep a high shutter speed
