We now got nine new Sony FE lenses to play with. The seven existing ART primes plus the two new 70mm and 105mm primes. I know many readers are disappointed those lenses have not a special new design made specifically for Sony. I am a bit disappointed too. But now I am looking at the full half glass and want to cheer you up with those arguments:
1) You don’t have to spend extra money on the MC-11 adapter.
2) These lenses are compatible with Sony’s Continuous AF, which would have not been possible by using the Sigma MC-11 adapter. This means you get all the full Sony autofocus system benefits.
3) A new special design would probably have raised the cost of the lens. And all those ART lenses already have a superb Image Quality.
4) At least on the tele side of the lens size a “special FE design” would have been resulted in more or less the same size anyway.
“Unofficial chatter” also leads to a somehow easy to guess info on the pricing. All nine Sony FE lenses will have the same price of the Canon-Nikon versions.
