Sony 2025 camera roadmap: A7V, FX3II and 100 Megapixel Sony A7rVI?

Share

Guys, it’s time to share my opinion on Sony’s possible camera roadmap for 2025. Some things I’m sure about, some things I’m skeptical about, and some things I’m very skeptical about. For starters, I’m pretty sure we’ll get more cameras in 2025 than 2024 (A1II and ZV-E10II only). This is a possible list of cameras that could be announced based on the usual Sony release cycle:

Cameras that are NOT going to be released in 2025:

  • No successor to the A6700 (and no other APS-C E-mount camera either!
  • No successor to the A7cIIA7cR and no A7cS
  • No successor to the ZV-E1

Cameras that could be announced during the first half of 2025:

  • Sony A7V: Body of the A1II, new 44MP(?) and 20 fps(?)
  • Sony FX9/FX6 successor
  • Sony FX3II with 24MP global shutter sensor of the A9III

Cameras that could be announced during the second half of 2025:

  • Sony As7IV with 24MP global shutter sensor OR the Sony A7rVI with new near 100MP sensor (watch the video on top for more details)
  • Sony RX1rIII

Impossible dreams

My serious guess: I’m sure the A7V and the FX9/6 successor will come. I think an FX3II is also a hot candidate. But the real highlight should be announced in November 2025. And it will be one of these three cameras: A7sIV, A7rVI and RX1rIII. I would love to have all three, but I’m happy if Sony only makes one of them :) What do you think about this roadmap? Too optimistic? Something else missing? Let me know in the comment system!

Sigma is developing a telephoto lens for Sony that “has never existed before”

Share

The CEO of Sigma, Kazuto Yamaki, shared his personal insights about the company and the photography industry as a whole. As always, a very insightful, honest and thought-provoking conversation that is well worth watching! At the very end of the conversation, he revealed a little sneak peek:

They are developing a telephoto lens that “never existed before”. He says: “Sports and wildlife photographers could be very excited about this lens”.

I have no idea what this lens might be, but in the past few years I have discovered a few Sigma patents with a “unique” focal length:

  • 60-700mm f/4.5-7.4
  • 50-500mm f/4.5-6.5

But I really don’t know if this is the kind of telephoto lens Sigma is working on. Let me know in the comments what you think or hope Sigma will announce in 2025!
