(SR5) All future Zeiss lenses will be fullframe (3-4 new Zeiss lenses within 18 months!)

Share

According to SonyAlphaRumors sources Sony and Zeiss just defined the future lens strategy. All future Zeiss lenses will be Fullframe. There will be no more Zeiss DT lenses (like the Sony 16-80mm f/3.5-4.5 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T DT Zoom Lens). I also know that there will be at least 3-4 new Zeiss lenses during the next 12-18months. One of these should be the 200mm f/2.0 lens. Reminder: Zeiss made the [shoplink 4467]Aposonnar 200mm f/2.0 for Contax (you can find them used on eBay)[/shoplink]. The lens itself will be cheaper than the Nikon 200mm f/2G ($4,799.00 at Amazon right now).
We need to doublecheck the rumors we received about the next Zeiss lenses. If you know more about the future Zeiss lenses please contact me using the right form on the sidebar or at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Every little help helps! Thanks!

Those are the current fullframe Zeiss lenses (Click on store name to check price and availability):
– Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 ZA Lens (Amazon / Adorama / BHphoto)
– Sony 24mm f/2.0 Distagon T* lens (Amazon / Adorama / BHphoto)
– Sony 24 -70mm f/2.8 Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T Zoom Lens (Amazon / Adorama / BHphoto)
– Sony 85mm f1.4 Carl Zeiss Planar T Coated Telephoto Lens (Amazon / Adorama / BHphoto)
– Sony 135mm f/1.8 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T Telephoto Lens (Amazon / Adorama / BHphoto)

P.S: Just my two cent. I would love see a new wide fast Zeiss lens, the 28mm f/1.4 or/and the 35mm f/1.4 :)

Sony A33 preview at Cameralabs and review at Fotopolis

Share

Cameralabs tested the new Sony A33 camera:”for now can assure you the movie experience is the closest we’ve found to a consumer camcorder yet“. The final review will be posted soon but you can already see some interetsing tests.

Meanwhile Fotopolis posted a complete A33 review. Those are the pros and cons:
+ Pivotally mounted LCD
+ AVCHD 1080i HD movie with a fast AF
+ 7 shooting fps
+ Interesting exposure modes, including 3D panoramas and HDR
+ Image stabilization inside the body
+ Low noise for high ISO
+ Excellent reproduction of detail
+ Natural color reproduction
+ Quite good ergonomics
+ SDXC + card support, and MS Pro Duo

– Semi-transparent mirror, limits the access of light to the sensor
– At the expense of optical electronic viewfinder
– Body made of average quality plastics
– Cannot record movies in Single AF mode
– Relatively high price

Sony A33 reviewed at Amateur Photographer: “While the image quality may be better from the Canon EOS 550D, for those who want to photograph moving subjects, such as sports or wildlife, the Alpha 33 is an excellent camera. In fact, it can’t be bettered for its price.”

Most sold system cameras in Japan: Three Sony cameras into the top 10!

Share

Great news for Sony. The new A55 and the two NEX cameras made it into the Japanese top10 of the most sold system cameras in September! Source: BCNranking.
Speaking of manufactures shares. In May Sony had 6.1% of the Japanese sales share. After the NEX camera release Sony jumped up to 19.4%. And in September with the release of the SLT cameras the share further increased to 21.2%. Now they are pretty close to Nikon that is holding the second place (behind Canon) with 24.4%.
I would be damn curious to know how it is going in Europe and US. Sadly those kind of reliable and detailed rankings are available in Japan only.
