The new iPhone 4S camera uses a Sony sensor.

Share

I guess you all know that the most used camera of the world is actually a phone, the iPhone! And the new iPhone 4S uses a new back illuminated 8 Megapixel Sony sensor. The confirmation comes via Chipworks.com (Click here). That’s a huge business for Sony and again a prof that Sony is currently producing the best sensors on market (like the [shoplink 8452]Sony NEX-5n[/shoplink] 16 Megapixel sensor). I can’t wait to see how good the new fullframe sensor is. We only have to wait a couple of months to see it :)

And her eis one more Sony sensor news: Ziptronix bonds with Sony to provide its oxide bonding technology for backside illumination imaging sensors (eetimes.com).

NEX-7 hands-on video at dpreview (Will there be a shipping delay because of the flood in Thailand?)

Share

The video on top shows the NEX-7 in the hands of the Dpreview reviewer. But I also have one more ting to tell you. Things in Thailand are much worse than expected and I heard that there will be even longer delays in Sony camera shipments (and that includes the NEX-7). As you know also Nikon produces the camera in the same region and Thom Hogan (Click here) posted quite a terrible report about the consequences in Nikon factories. I ask my sources if they can please tell me if the NEX-7 shipment will be delayed or not. Thanks!

Meanwhile, these are the links to preorder the new Sony NEX cameras and lenses:

Is the NEX-7 image quality better than the quality of the A77?

Share

Imaging Resource (Click here) posted a full set of Sony NEX-7 studio samples. The cool thing is that finally you can compare the NEX-7 and A77 image quality: http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM.

An example: At 16000 ISO the NEX-7 image (Click here) looks sharper than the A77 (Click here). UPDATE: Both cameras used the same [shoplink 9605 ebay]Sigma 70mm F2.8 macro lens[/shoplink]!

And even at low 100 ISO the NEX-7 image (Click here) is a tack sharper than the A77 image (Click here).

I don’t know yet if the differences we see are here because of the absence of the semi transparent mirror on the NEX-7. One thing is sure, the NEX-7 really looks like an amazing perfomer for me!

Preorder the NEX-7 at [shopcountry 8454].
And the NEX-7 is still the only non-Canon and non-Nikon camera that is constantly under the Amazon top-20 (Click here to see the full ranking).
Get the A77 at [shopcountry 8461].

Collapsible lens patent

Share

The japanese blog Egami (Click here) found a new Sony patent disclosing a collapsible lens technology. The image on top shows the lens in full retracted position. The single lenses are in contact with the other lenses to minimize the length. Actually only Olympus is offering such a lens (The [shoplink 9584 ebay]14-42mm kit lens[/shoplink]). Collapsible lenses and in future also the liquid lens technology should allow Sony to create very small lenses. Can’t wait to see one of these lenses for real!

Slrmagic 28mm f/2.8 reviews

Share

[shoplink 7358 ebay][/shoplink]

EosHD (Click here) tested the SLRmagic 28mm f/2.8 with E-mount: “Essentially with SLR Magic you have a pre-approved selection of glass that is quirky and stylistic. I had tons of fun shooting with this lens and it doesn’t break the bank, it’s probably the cheapest E-mount lens on the market.

Also Steve Huff (Click here) reviewed the same lens: “This 28 2.8 lens is somewhat classic in its rendering when shot wide open and when you stop it down to f/8, forget about it! It sharpens up and gives really great results.

You can get that lens on [shoplink 7358 ebay]eBay only (Click here)[/shoplink].
