Sony NEX covers the end of the Space Shuttle Program

Share

Dennis Biela contacted me to share his latest project he is going to realize with the help of the Sony NEX cameras:

Hi we have a project covering the end of the Space Shuttle Program and wanted to do 3D images for part of it. Problem is to get the spacing between the cameras correct to give the proper 3D affect and not give the viewer a headache. Plus even though Sony has a 3D effect built into the camera but it does not capture 2 images at the same moment in time one photo is taken then the camera moves and another photo is taken. Best solution we found for great quality and speed is 2 [shoplink 3003]Sony NEX-5’s[/shoplink]. One camera is inverted and we are using 2 [shoplink 5717]Nikon 20mm lenses[/shoplink] with [shoplink 5718]Nikon to Sony E adapters[/shoplink]. The cameras are fired though IR Bob Fisher the projects “Widget Guy” created the circut and the San Diego Air & Space museum restoration shop machined the bracket. Bob then put it all together. The small size and weight make working with two NEX-5 a breeze and no shutter lag.

Sony A77 or Sony A800 or something else? What will be the final name?

Share

That waiting for the A77 is killing you and me! The very latest not so useful info I did receive was that Sony is now approving the REAL final name of the upcoming pro APS-C model. Since months we named the camera A77 but there could be still a surprise and Sony could name it differently (what about Sony A800?). On eBay there are already many stores placing there bet on the final name:
We get 9 results when we search for the [shoplink 5687]A77 (Click here to see the search list)[/shoplink] and we get 48 items when we search for the [shoplink 5686]A800 (Click here)[/shoplink].

The A800 name clearly reminds us that it is the [shoplink 3228]Sony A700 successor[/shoplink]. The A77 would  focus the attention on the translucent technology reminding us that this is the top model of the current [shoplink 3620]A33[/shoplink] and [shoplink 3617]A55[/shoplink] cameras.

(SR5) Super 35mm sensor, a twin-lens 3D configuration, and the third water/dust-resistant compact camera to be announced on March 23!!!

Share

Hot news dear readers! Sony will unveil three new cameras on March 23!

1) The NXCAM Super 35mm

The NXCAM Super 35mm modular(!) camera shares the same Sony F3 sensor (23.6mm x 13.3mm F11/ISO800 Exmor Super35 CMOS). It will be priced at under $7,000, has a large top-mounted screen/viewfinder, sturdy mike extension that doubles as a carry handle, and a right-side hand-hold grip. It has an E-mount! It will compete against the Panasonic AG-AF100 (Click here ot see the camera and specs at BH). So it sounds like we will get our digital E-mount “[shoplink 5702]Hasselblad[/shoplink]” :)

2) The compact NXCAM

There will be also a compact camcorder (under $3,500) with 96GB of internal memory and water/dust resistant (not waterproof!) body! It looks like the JVC HM100 (Click here to see it on Amazon). It has a fixed lens.

3) The twin-lens NXCAM 3D Camcorder

Priced under $3,500 and it comes with a 3.5” glasses-less 3D screen!

The NAB show takes place in Las Vegas on April 9-14.

New Sony A55 review and superdeals at Adorama

Share

[shoplink 3617][/shoplink]
Techradar (Click here) tested the Sony A55: “It would be very easy to dismiss this novel design as a gimmick, but for certain photographers it will provide a real advantage. Image quality is similar to contemporary conventional SLR cameras, but the size and weight of the A55 is much reduced, making this camera ideal for those who travel extensively, or just wish their SLR was a bit smaller and lighter.” A bit strange that the verdict sounds good but the final rating is 3/5 stars only. I checked the ratings from other cameras. The Nikon D7000 got three stars and the Pentax K-5 four stars. Both cameras do share the same A55 sensor but it looks like the Pentax K-5 can squeeze out the best image quality from the sensor.

If you still do not own the Sony A55 you might take a look on the latest deals at Adorama (Click here). They are offering $100 instant rebates on many A55 double lens kits. If you need more than the kit lens only go for it!
