Sony A33 and NEX-3 review, Capture One 6.2 test with A55 and NEX-5.

Digitalcamerainfo (Click here) tested the Sony A33: “The Sony Alpha SLT-A33 did not blow us away in any specific area, but the camera did a passable job in all of our tests. If you’re overly concerned about image performance, then there are plenty of other cameras that will please you more than the A33 (like the Sony A55V). But, we found the A33 to be a handy shooter with a good set of controls, an intuitive menu system, and some fun features to boot.

Phase One released the new Capture One 6.2 which adds the support for the Sony SLT and NEX cameras. And Alpha Numerique tested the new software with the Sony A55 and NEX-5. The reuslt is that Lightroom is still better at High-ISO handling but Phase One is a very good tool for studio and landscape photography.

Cameras.co.uk (Click here) tested the NEX-3: “The Sony Nex-3 is not a cheap option, but it is a quality option. You can pick up the majority of features this camera has with an entry level Digital SLR and pay less if you prefer to. The main attractions are its picture quality and a portability that a Digital SLR simply cannot match. Overall The Nex-3 is an impressive camera.

How the peaking modus works (coming with the new NEX firmware)

Share

Two days ago we leaked the new NEX firmware upgrade manual. One of the new features is the new peaking feedback system. To see how it works check this Sony H5 review at Dpreview (Click here): “The blue areas show peaks of contrast (as used by the autofocus system), giving clear, obvious feedback about which areas will be captured sharply.

What I don’t know yet is when Sony will announce the new firmware (and also the new NEX-C3). If you know something feel free to share it by dropping (anonymously) a message using the contact form on the right sidebar. Thanks!

Conurus is developing an EOS to NEX electronic adapter?

Share

Conurus left a very interesting message on the Cameralbas forum: “We are developing an electronic adapter which interfaces a Canon EF lens to a Sony NEX body. You just set the aperture on the Sony NEX body and shoot (or let the camera decide in Program or Shutter Priority modes). We have already built a successful prototype and is in the process of putting this in production. For more information, look for “conurus” on Twitter, Youtube or Google.

Low light test: FS100 F3 AF101 5DmkII from Philip Bloom

The well know filmmaker Philip Bloom just posted a bunch of new interesting videos made the two new Sony video cameras and the Panasonic AG-AF100 and Canon 5D markII. The Sony F3 is a PL mount camera and the Sony NEX-FS100 has an E-mount. Read the full preview and see all the videos on Philip’s website (Click here). It’s still to early to draw any final conclusion but it looks like the Sony cameras do deliver the best results! I for myself are strongly considering to buy the NEX-FS100. Want to carry it with me for my next trip in Ecuador in September. Let’s hope the camera release will be not delayed and be in Stock in July (Source: B&H).

Image on top: Screenshot taken from Sony Germany

Many readers already noticed that Sony is preparing a new NEX-C3 page on their website.  See for example that page on Sony Germany or Sony UK. What I don’t know yet is when Sony will launch the new cameras. I was told that Sony has a planed press release on end of May (for the new NEX lenses). Maybe they are going to announce the cameras too or maybe not. Let’s see.

It will bring new art filters like (pop-art, toy-effect, retro-style,red-only filter, High-Key and more). And there is also a new feature that enhances the outline of in-focus ranges with a specific color.
UPDATE: This is the english version of the manual (http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/AE1T100111.pdf)

A Sony rumors roundup.

Share

As you know SonyAlphaRumors has been the first website to talk you about the future Sony NEX-C3 and A35 cameras. But the April 4th announcement has been delayed and someone started to believe that those cameras do not exist at all and that I might got wrong info from my sources. Good to know that they were right as we all finally saw the leaked images of the cameras…It took a load off my mind!

Now it’s time for a new rumors recap. I do this because I noticed that many readers do not read the blog daily and it’s easy to miss some important article. Those are our last seven rumors (latest rumor on top):

1) We heard form a new source that Cosina-Voigtländer working on a ultra fast lens for the NEX-system (Click here to read the article). The poll shows how two thirds of our readers would love to get their own hands on that lens even if it is a manual focusing lens only.
2) The first pictures of the new external flash (Click here to read the article).
3)The first pictures of the 16 Megapixel Sony NEX-C3 (Click here to read the article). 72% of our readers do like the new compact and more rugged/professional design of the C3. P.S.: I also found it nicer than the current NEX-3/5!
4) The first pictures of the Sony A35 translucent camera (Click here to read the article).
5) The Sony A77 and NEX-7 will be announced in July but due the recent production problems in Japanese quantities will be limited at first (Click here to read the article).
6) We also posted a NEX-7, A77 and lens rumors and specs summary (Click here to read the article). 55% of our readers are waiting for the A77. Time for Sony to satisfy them ;)
7) NEX-7 for $1,300 and superb build quality (Click here to read the article).

If you want to send a rumor: You can use the contact form on the right sidebar without sending me your name or email address. Would be nice if you could use some kind of fake name so that I can recognize you in future. It will be easier and faster for me to post the rumor you send me if I know you are a trusted source who gave me correct rumors in the past. You can also contact me directly at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com (create a fake gmail account to contact me). I usually try to double check the rumor with other sources so please be patient.

If readers want to support me: I don’t accept donations and I usually have 2 or maximum 3 advertising banners only. I don’t want this website to look like many other photographic websites which do take heavy use of flashy advertising. But nevertheless I need some support to cover the costs and to buy some presents for my girlfriend who doesn’t understand why I do spend so many hours with you instead of with her :)  So if you want to help me the only thing you can do is to purchase whatever products you want by clicking on our shop links. Once you click on them from everything you buy (even shoes or books) we will earn a small commission from it. Of course you pay the usual normal price and you will support us without having to donate us any penny ;)
