New patent discoloses a new Sony sensor with “on board” phase detection.

Share

Phase detection or not phase detection….that’s the question! Mirrorless cameras are currently do lag behind most DSLR cameras in terms of autofocus speed. That’s why Sony is developing a sensor for NEX cameras that has built-in phase detection capabilities. I found (again) a new patent that describes the technology (Click here to see the publication at freepatentsonline). Fuji is already using it on the [shoplink 6047 ebay]Finepix Z800EXR (Click here to see that camera)[/shoplink]! See the Fuji camera specs at [shopcountry 6047]. There is also a nice article on Dpreview (Click here) that describes the Fuji technology.

But I don’t know if such a sensor will be ever implemented in NEX cameras. Rumors are saying that Olympus next PEN cameras will have an extremely fast and accurate autotofocus and catch up with DSLR cameras in terms of af speed. So maybe Sony is wasting time with it?

Yeahhh! Website works! Feel free to test comment system…and send me rumors ;)

Share

Oh my god! Finally things do REALLY work. You can now easily go back to comment on SAR. And what is even more important…the contact form now works again! Feel free to send me rumors again ;)

I want to thank you for your patience and understanding! You know I am not a professionist and there is a lot of handmade work behind the website. In those days I used all my free time to make this website work decently again. So I am quite at the end of my energy. I will now go to bed, sleep 10 hours and when I wake up I will read all your comments, emails and rumors. Good Night ;)

SLR magic 28mm f/2.8 NEX lens in Stock on eBay.

[shoplink 7358 ebay][/shoplink]
Slr magic from Hong Kong just announced via Twitter that the new 28mm f/2.8 lens for E-mount is in Stock on [shoplink 7358 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. The price is $199. This is a manual lens that needs no adapter to fit on your NEX camera. I havn’t found a review on the world wide web, just a hands-on written by Steve Huff.

This is the second NEX lens made by the company. The other one is the SLR Magic 35mm f/1.7 you can also get on [shoplink 3514 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

P.S.: I hope Sigma or Voigtländer will do the pancakes Sony is missing in their roadmap. Would love to see a native [shoplink 3717 ebay]35mm f/1.4 Voigtländer[/shoplink] lens for example!

New Sony 18-200mm NEX lens review at SLRgear.

Share

[shoplink 3060][/shoplink]
While I am still fighting with the comment and contact form issues o SonyAlphaRumors I found that new Sony 18-200mm NEX lens review at SLRgear (Click here): “The Sony 18-200mm ƒ/3.5-6.3 E is a no-brainer of an upgrade. Offering better performance than the kit lens, with more reach to boot, it’s an obvious choice, so long as you don’t mind carrying around a system that’s more lens than camera.
You can check the price of the lens by clicking those direct search links to [shopcountry 3060].

And a Panasonic G3 versus NEX-5 comparison has been posted by Digitalcamerainfo (Click here).

Editor’s note: We are three people working to fix the current issues on the comment system and contact form. It’s now 48 hours that we are searching for the erroneous code. I am now close to learn my laptop how to fly (when launched outside the window). Anyway, found some help by more experienced programmers and they should fix the problem within tomorrow. I am crossing the fingers!!! :(

Still fixing some stuff on the new server..

Share

Damn, since we moved on the new server I am working all the time to fix some stuff:
1) Comment system isn’t working well. Your comments do get stored but you wills ee an error page after sending the comment. And you can back to SAR only after 30sec. Annoying!
2) Contact form: Messages will NOT be sent.
3) You cannot register on SAR.

I am spending a lot of time on this right now with my other two “rumor colleagues”. Will let you know when everything is fixed. One thing is sure, there is no more malware anymore. Completely gone and website safe and secure now (we added some measures to block that stuff).

Anyway, I am still working on rumors in the meanwhile. I have one major rumor, but I am going to post it only when everything above has been fixed! Thanks for your understanding, believe me, I am so tired and frustrated now… :(

Sony HX9v video quality beats the Canon 600D (EosHD)

Share

Andrew Reid from EosHD (Click here) compared the [shoplink 7344]Sony HX9v[/shoplink] vs [shoplink 7345]Canon 600D[/shoplink] video quality: “The new Sony HX9v compact out-resolves the 600D’s video mode for resolution, and has 1080/60p. It is also a lot closer to a DSLR in terms of dynamic range than I expected it would be. It fits in my pocket and has a stabilised 24-380mm lens.

This is just to show the power and knowledge from Sony regarding the video technology. Let’s hope the A77 will become THE camera that features full manual video controls and decent quality (at least better than the [shoplink 6954]Canon 7D[/shoplink] please!).

(SR4) A77 body only will cost 1.000 Euro in Europe. A77 production costs are low!

Share

After a two days troubles with hacked code and new server installation I can finally go back to normal news coverage. A trusted source just sent me the price in Euro of the A77 body. As you know two weeks ago I told you that the A77 camera + 18-55mm kit lens would cost $1099. Now I am pretty sure the A77 body only will cost 999 Euro in Europe! I think that’s a very good price if the image and body quality is on top as we expect it to be! I also expect street price to be around 950 Euro.

That’s less than the main competition:
Check Canon 7D price at [shopcountry 6954].
Check Nikon D7000 price at price at [shopcountry 6952].

I have been told that this is possible because the translucent cameras can get rid of the expensive optical viewfinder system. Production costs should be around 15-20% less than classic DSLR cameras!
One more thing: I know from trusted that the price of raw glas almost doubled in a bit more than one year!
