The Sony A55 has the best APS-C sensor (says DxOmark)

Share

DxOmark tested the 14 Megapixel (A33) and 16 Megapixels (A55) sensor and surprise surprise…the A55 has the best APS-C sensor ever tested on DxO. Look at the following sensor ranking graph: http://dxomark.com/index.php/en/Camera-Sensor/Sensor-rankings.
It beats all Canon APS-C cameras and only the Nikon D90 is as good as the A55.

The real fun with DxoMark tests is that you can easily compare the cameras like here for example: A55 vs D90 vs 7D (click here to see the comparison).

Reminder: The A55 is in Stock at Amazon US, Sonystyle, Pixmania Deutschland, Pixmania Belgium, Pixmania Austria, Pixmania UK, Pixmania Holland, Pixmania Poland, Pixmania Italia, Pixmania Suisse, Pixmania Spain, Pixmania France.

It’s SonyAlphaRumors’ first birthday!

I started working on this website exactly one year ago and there is one reason only why I want to celebrate this event. It’s the perfect occasion to thank you! Because of your help I can post unique rumors and interesting news and pay the server bills. What I like most is that through this website I am able to meet so many people from everywhere around the world! I only wish I would have more time to visit you all in your country :)

I could write a book about what happened in the past year, but I will stop here. Because really, the only thing you should know is that I feel happy to be here for you! Thanks!

Nat Geo shooter Ben Horton compares Canon glass to Zeiss glass (Zeiss rules!)

Share

Ben Horton finally gave us an answer to the BIG question: Are Zeiss lenses better than Canon lenses? Oh yes! The National geographic shooter tested the Zeiss ZE lens series for Canon and published the results on Photocinenews. He tested those lenses and said the Zeiss lenses can outresolve the 22 Megapixel sensor of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II.

When presented with an opportunity to take a good photo, I chose the Zeiss lens over my Canon lens every time. I didn’t even have to think about it. The contrast, the clarity, and the feel of the lenses was so much better from the very beginning that I had ceased to use them just for the review, I was using them so I would get the best image that I possibly could.

Why is the test so important? It shows the potential of the future High-resolution APS-C and FF Sony sensors when combined with Zeiss lenses. The A77 will feature a new 24 megapixel sensor and the FF sensor is expected to have more than 30 Megapixels! To have good lenses is crucial because otherwise the Megapixel race doesn’t make any sense.

Those are the current fullframe Zeiss lenses for Sony (Click on store name to check price and availability):

Panasonic to announce a NEX competitor this week

Share

We just learned (via 43rumors) that Panasonic is going to announce a [shoplink 3003]Sony NEX[/shoplink] competitor, the GF2. I guess Panasonic didn’t expect Sony to release such small mirrorless cameras and they have choosen to develop the GF2 to compete against them. The ruor says that it will be at least as small as the NEX. Bad for Panasonic, it uses the same Panasonic GF1 sensor. And we know the Sony sensor works better…

Akihabaranews tested the new Sony NEX-VG10. Their conclusion: “Despite its painful UI, control button layout, its incapacity to smoothly and quickly zoom in and out as well as many other small drawbacks, the NEX-VG10 is a fantastic camera.” and “Not only is the NEX-VG10 a gorgeous camera to look at but it also offers gorgeous video to watch. It is definitively the best “Hybrid Camcorder” ever made and the best compact “Handycam” made by Sony so
