New Sony E-mount camcorder with Super-35mm sensor!

Share

We told you that Sony would announced a few new camcorders and that they would become very interesting even for Alpha-NEX camera owners ;)

After the PL mount Super-35mm camera Sony announced the E-mount Super-35mm camcorder. Now you can use your [shoplink 3003]NEX lenses[/shoplink] on a professional camcorder! The Super-35mm sensor has 2k sensor with large 12 microns. It can capture 4 times more light than the [shoplink 3028]Sony A850/A900[/shoplink] cameras. Imagine what you can do in very dim light!

Sony Corporation announced today that it is developing a new type of E-mount interchangeable lens camcorder for professional use that is equipped with a Super-35mm equivalent large format CMOS sensor. This new addition to Sony’s professional “NXCAM” line will be available in the middle of 2011.” (Source: Sony.net)

Full press release:

Sony to expand 35mm large format sensor camcorder lineup
“NXCAM” HD camcorder under development, featuring E-mount lens system Sony Corporation announced today that it is developing a new type of E-mount interchangeable lens camcorder for professional use that is equipped with a Super-35mm equivalent large format CMOS sensor. This new addition to Sony’s professional “NXCAM” line will be available in the middle of 2011.

Already a key player in the 35mm digital cinematography business with the highly acclaimed “CineAlta” F35 and SRW-9000PL for high-end digital cinema production, Sony has just strengthened its lineup in this category with the recent PMW-F3 announcement. In addition to this, with this new “NXCAM” HD camcorder now (still under development), Sony looks to further strengthen its position in the entry-level segment by providing an affordable yet highly capable professional solution for many applications including independent film, music video and corporate communications all looking for the cinematic look.

This “NXCAM” HD camcorder under development will be equipped with a Super-35mm equivalent sensor, a widely used film stock size in the film industry that is perfectly designed for capturing motion picture. This new sensor will have extraordinary performance in terms of picture quality and sensitivity, and is able to create rich “Bokeh” effect (beautifully defocused image) that is perfect for artistic story-telling in motion picture.

Thanks to the adoption of the E-mount interchangeable lens system that is identical to the “α” series NEX-5, 3 and “Handycam” NEX-VG10, the E-mount lenses will be compatible with this new professional camcorder. In addition, a very short flange back distance (the distance between lens mount surface and sensor surface) let various “α” A-mount lenses be mounted via a mount adaptor (LA-EA1). Furthermore, it is also possible to attach many other lenses using third-party mount adaptors*1. With such flexibility, users will be able to experiment with various creative expressions by exploiting the characteristics of different optics.

*1: Not all types of adaptors and lenses are guaranteed.

The recording format for this new HD camcorder will be AVCHD, a widely supported format by many non liner editing software vendors and the same format as HXR-NX5 “NXCAM” camcorder.
There is also a plan to implement 1080p (60p / 30p / 24p*2 or 50p / 25p) recording modes.
(MPEG4-AVC/H.264 compression will be used for these modes.)

(SR4) Nex-7 coming early 2011 (March?)

NEX-7 rendering from Tecnofotografia (not the real camera!)

Sorry if I didn’t post anything about the NEX-7 camera since a very long time. But there is a good reason for that. Sony itself was evaluating the current [shoplink 3003]NEX-3/5[/shoplink] response from the market before to define the NEX-7 specs and release date. I still don’t know those specs but I can give you a few info from my good sources.

1) The NEX-7 is coming by early 2011 and before the A77 announcement! One source told me that the NEX-7 will be announced in February-March.
2) Unlike the NEX-3/5 the NEX-7 has a built-in EVF. I heard the EVF should be very advanced and use a new OLED technology!
3) The NEX-7 is optimized fot video recording but unlike the older rumors it doesn’t come with ExmorHD. It will record 1080p with AVCHD 24mbit/s (same as the Panasonic GH2)
4) I received some specs from unkown sources but I am currently trying to “squeeze” more info from my trusted sources. Take it with a grain of salt but one new source (also not reliable for now!) said the NEX-7 will have In-body stabilization. I repeat take it easy, I also don’t know why the NEX-7 should have in body IS

I didn’t find any NEX-7 news on the world wide web. Only [shoplink 4664]asian eBay resellers (Click here)[/shoplink] are speculating with a NEX-7 release :)

I rated that rumor with SR4 so some things could not be entirely correct. I really hope to give you far more precise details soon! I also need your help to get more info about the NEX-7. If you want to share some “rumor” feel free to contact me at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com or use the contact from on the right sidebar. Thanks!

Will you buy the new Samyang 50mm f/1.4 FE lens?

Sony A55 review at Pocketlink. Steve Huff SLRmagic test.

Share

Steve Huff posted the “SLR Magic 35 1.7 Lens review on the Sony NEX-5“:”I have to give applause for someone releasing a small fast lens for these small mirror-less cameras. Even though it is not a super sharp Leica lens, this little 35 1.7 is a great buy for [shoplink 3514]$99 (on eBay[/shoplink]). PERIOD! It may not be a lens you will use all of the time, but when you do use it be prepared for some interesting images.” The SLR magic is a native manual focusing E-mount lens, no need to buy an adapter!

Pocket Link posted a new short Sony A55 review: “There’s still some room for improvement, so we wait with baited breath as to just how good the next generation of cameras will be. But for now the [shoplink 3617]Sony A55[/shoplink] rules the roost and it really is the pinnacle of new age digital cameras.

Sony slowly moving into world domination.

Share

Calm down guys, the title is a joke ;)
But what you can’t deny is that Sony started a second (or new) life. According to BCNranking the [shoplink 3003]Sony NEX-5[/shoplink] was the third most sold system camera in October (Japan only). And the [shoplink 3617]Sony A55[/shoplink] is on place 8th! And let’s go further with the next world domination facts: The Time magazine selected the 50 Best Inventions of 2010 and look….there is the Sony A55! And finally the german magazine Chip.de placed four Sony cameras under the best entry-level DSLR!

Sony…let’s continue: Realease the NEX-7, A77 and A950 ;)

The Sony half-mirror patent

Share

I just found the United States Application US20100277637 which refers to a new Sony half-mirror patent (Click here to dowanload the pdf). It has been just published and it doesn’t reveal anything new. But I thought some of you might be interested to read the technical details of the SLT technology.

Need a spy camera? Sony NEX with Samyang 500mm lens!

Share
[shoplink 4648][/shoplink]

You own a Sony NEX camera but you need a spy camera to look into your neighborhoods houses? You have to buy the [shoplink 4648]Samyang 500mm lens[/shoplink] :) I found s0me image samples of that crazy combo at Photogenius.ru. The Samyang is available on eBay for $190-$290 ([shoplink 4648]Click here to see current auctions[/shoplink]). And don’t forget that Sony made a nice 500mm f/8 Reflex which has been discontinued. That lens is also much more expensive ($749.00 at Amazon right now).

(SR4) Sony A950 (tentative name) to be announced in 12-16 months.

A rendering of the A950 from Tecnofotografia

According to SonyAlphaRumors sources the next A900 successor should be announced in a little bit more than one year. The A950 (tentative name) will be announced a few months after the new Nikon High-end camera which will use the same new high-resolution sensor (over 30 Megapixels!). I was told that Sony has two possible release dates. One by end 2011 and one by early 2012. Why two released dates? Because Sony still didn’t decide if the camera will be a classic DSLR or use the [shoplink 3617]translcuent technology[/shoplink]. They need feedback from photographers to understand if a translucent camera would be accepted from professionists.

So should we help them a little bit? Please answer only if you really want to buy the FF camera! Invite your friends to vote and comment the rumor…Sony is reading us!

Which one of the five "speculated" models would you consider to buy?

One more thing:
One of my trusted sources sent me the link to an older A900 successor rumor written by wedding photographer Marc Williams. The source told me that Marc is very close to the real final A950 specs! Here is what Marc wrote: photo.net that “Sony is a late bloomer, and strong rumors indicate mind boggling innovations are on the horizon … notably a 35 meg camera with a top shutter speed of 1/12,000th and a true flash sync speed of 1/1000th.

If you know something about the A950 please contact me at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Thanks!
