New Sigma lens reviews roundup!

Share

Here are a couple of links to the Sigma 30mm and 19mm lens reviews:

SLRlensreview (Click here) tested the 30mm lens on the Sony NEX camera: “Sigma’s entry level prime indeed bests Sony’s lens in resolution department. Everything else seems to be very comparable. So the recommendation is to choose Sony’s E 30/3.5 if you’re into macro photography, while for everything else just go with Sigma’s 30/2.8 EX DN.

30mm first look at Photographybay (Click here): “So far, the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 EX DN looks like a real winner for Sony NEX cameras as a fast walkaround lens.

Another 19mm lens test on the NEX-5n can be seen within a forum post at Fred Miranda (Click here): “I think this little lens holds it own, with a muted contrast/high detail rending all it’s own, excellent ergonomics, and a ridiculously low price.

Also Photographybolly (Click here) is testing the 19mm lens: “In conclusion, for $200 this lens is great value for a very good lens. If you already have the 16mm you might decide to give this lens a miss. If you don’t, having used both, I would recommend the 19mm over the 16mm.

The 30mm lens is in Stock at Amazon US (Click here), Amazon DE (Click here), Amazon FR (Click here).

(SR3) Sony official Full Frame prototype to be shown soon?

Share

Rumors are growing and growing and the latest I heard from a source is that Sony plans unveil something “Full Frame” within the next few weeks!!! Don’t get too excited guys, it’s realistic to think they may show a prototype only. As I told you Sony has two different FF cameras in the works. But I guess only one of them will be shown (if the rumor is correct).

But, I have some kind of good feeling that Sony may will accelerate the Full Frame plans after the Canon 5DmarkIII and Nikon D800 announcements. I know there is people within Sony pushing the Japanese managers to release the first SLT camera sooner than Photokina. But please remain with your feet on earth for now! All we can hope is to see a prototype only…ok?

FF rumor history:
A year ago I reported that Sony’s plan was to release a new FF camera in late Spring 2012. The Thai flood delayed the A77 release and Sony decided to postpone the FF camera release because they need time to evaluate the A77 flaws and user suggestions. The latest news was that a new FF SLT camera will be announced in September. Very likely using a new 24 Megapixel sensor. But there are also rumors about a second 36 Megapixel rumor and a FF square sensor. Sony may now be ready to show us some FF prototype or roadmap within the next weeks. Or is there some room for an ulterior surprise?

P.S.: The Sony powered Nikon D800 keeps remaining the most sold camera at Amazon US (Click here). Time to offer something that can compete against it!

Good news! Sony wants to push the Imaging Division (and 4K technology).

Share

Sony just issued a pdf document (Click here to download) where it describes the future strategy. And there are good news for us Alpha Camera users! One of the main goal is to Strengthen the Imaging core businesses  (Digital   Imaging,  Game,  Mobile).

Here is the detailed plan:
Sony is reinforcing its development of image sensors, signal processing technologies, lenses and other key digital imaging technologies in which it excels, and plans to leverage these technologies in both its consumer products (such as compact digital still cameras, digital video cameras and interchangeable lens digital cameras) and broadcast and professional products (such as professional use cameras and security cameras) in order to further strengthen and differentiate Sony’s overall product line. The Company also plans to extend the use of these key technologies across a wide range of business applications, from security to medical, to further expand the scope of its digital imaging business. Sony will target total sales of 1.5 trillion yen and double-digit operating income margin from the consumer, professional and image sensor businesses by FY14.

You can find another strategy presentation here: http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/fr/viewer/strategy/2012/. One of the main aspects are the “acceleration of the 4K Innovation”.

New Sony A57 reviews roundup (release delayed to fix the firmware)

Share

Sony Japan announced that it will dleay the release of the new Sony A57 because of firmware issues that have to be fixed before the official shipment. There is no info about the new shipment date. Meantime you can check some new reviews about the A57:

ePhotozine (Click here) posted a full Sony A57 review: “The Sony A57 is an excellent camera, capable of taking great photos, with low noise and bright saturated colour, however it just seems that the camera it replaces (the A55) was just as good, if not better?

USA: Sony 50mm will ship in 4-7 weeks only.

Share

The high request of the lens (or the low production capability of Sony) are making the 50mm almost impossible to find in US stores. According to Amazon (Click here) this lens will ship within 4-7 weeks only. As long as I see this kind of problems I remain worried that Sony may has to push forward some other new NEX lens announcement. I hope I am wrong…

UPDATE: The NEX-7 body and the kit version is back in Stock and sold by Amazon itself (Click here).
