Bunch of new Alpha Lens reviews!

I hope you are having a nice weekend. Just came back home and made a short roundup of the very latest Alpha lens tests. Let’s start with a bit unexpected and positively surprising review: Carl Garrard (Click here) tested the Konica Minolta 100-300mm APO D f4.5-5.6 Lens:”The coatings on this lens  and the APO elements produce some of the finest image quality I’ve seen from any DSLR lens in quite some time. My advice is to scoop up an APO D 100-300mm before they are gone.
Great to see how good the Minolta lens on modern camera works. But they are really difficult to find. There are just few of them on [shoplink 12495 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

And here are two more reviews of more “Modern” lenses:
Photographyblog (Click here) reviewed the 50mm f/1.8 lens: “The Sony DT 50mm F1.8 SAM is a worthwhile addition to your camera bag given its budget price tag – if only it was full-frame compatible too…
Photographyblog (Click here) also tested the 16-50mm lens: “Perhaps the only fly in the ointment is an apparent lack of sharpness at F2.8 that runs throughout the zoom range – you really need to stop down to F4 to achieve an acceptable level of sharpness. Despite this flaw, we can still highly recommend the Sony DT 16-50mm

After Canon also the Nikon D800 has some serious issue.

Share

Before to read, I admit I am a bit frustrated that I have to wait that long to buy my much awaited Sony Full Frame SLT camera. And As I told you I hope it will not have the same issue story of the [shoplink 8461]Sony A77[/shoplink] :(

But it sounds like also the very professional companies like Canon and Nikon are having troubles to guarantee a professional quality product. After the Canon 5D markIII “Leakgate” story (here at Canonwatch) it looks like also Nikon has a serious issue on the Nikon D800. Nikon just has admitted that “a run” of D800s have an issue with viewfinder alignment (Source: Fstoppers).

It’s the right time for Sony to start to tease us the Sony A99. Don’t you think? :)

P.S.: The Nikon D800 no more rules the DSLR ranking at Amazon (Click here to watch the full ranking).

(SR3) New Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 coming along the new FF camera in August.

Share

Rumors are getting stronger about the next Full Frame DDay announcement in late August. I am sure that there will be new Alpha lenses coming along the A99 (or whatever the final name will be). Question is which kind of lens should we expect? I am getting more and more “indications” that there will be a new Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 SSM lens. The rumor still hasn’t reached the SR5 value (which means that many trusted sources confirmed this) but I hope to get the definitive answer soon.

The current Sony 50mm f/1.4 is still based on the lens design typical of the 70s to 80s. It’s a decent performer but we absolutely need a high quality version too! I hope it will not be too expensive. The currently most expensive Full frame 50mm lens on the market is the [shoplink 12485 ebay]Zeiss Planar f/1.4 (Click here to see auctions on eBay)[/shoplink] which is available for Canon/Nikon/Pentax mount. That is the price I expect for the new Sony Zeiss!

And here a short poll:

Just for fun...place your bet! This is a rumor about the...

Surprise! Is the Sigma 30mm the best of all available E-mount lenses?

Share

You ever wanted to know which one is the best lens to use on a [shoplink 8454]Sony NEX-7[/shoplink]? Lensrentals (Click here) posted a complete unexpected test result. He measured the resolution of all currently available NEX lenses including a Leica 50mm f/1.4 Summilux with Fotodiox adapter. And at f/2.8 and f/4.0 aperture there is a super unexpected winner….the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 lens which costs $199 only (at Amazon).
Lensrentals writes: “The Sigma is really amazing. Obviously it’s not really a wide aperture prime, with a maximum aperture of f/2.8, but it gives world-class resolution. The Sony 24mm f/1.8 is not the bargain the Sigma is, but from f/2.2 on it has amazing center resolution, although it lags behind the other two in the corners.

Damn, that is such a surprise! I hope Klaus at Photozone will ahve the chance to confirm these results soon! Meantime I give you the links to the two Sigma lenses:
The 30mm lens is in Stock at Amazon US (Click here), Amazon DE (Click here), Amazon FR (Click here).
The 19mm lens is in Stock at Amazon US (Click here), Amazon DE (Click here), Amazon UK (Click here), Amazon FR (Click here).

Cheap!!!

(SR3) Is Sony going to launch a GoPro competitor this year?

Share

OK guys, this is neither an Alpha nor a NEX camera news but it’s interesting to know that under the most sold cameras you will find the GOPRO camera series. A new source just told me that Sony will enter that kind of market with GoPro “clones” by end of the year. It sounds like Sony will focus on NEX and on that kind of cameras in order to bring in some cash within the Digital Imaging business.

For those of you not knowing the GoPro camera here are some shop search links to check specs and price: [shopcountry 12474].
