Good Morning! I have to catch up with some Sony related reviews posted in these days. On top of this post you can watch the first RX100 video sample posted on vimeo. It might be of interest for future RX100 owners :)

Reviews:
Pocket Lint posted a full RX100 review: “Is it worth it? Absolutely. The RX100 will be exactly what many demanding photographers have been waiting for: a truly pocketable high-end, large-sensor compact.

(UPDATED) The difference between Sony 36 Megapixel with and with modified AA filter

Share

DxOmark (Click here) now posted the full results of the Nikon D800E which still has an anti aliasing filter but uses a second layer of the LPF to undo the effects of the first (Unlike the similar Nikon D800). As you know (and Nikon doesn’t tell you) both use the Sony 36 Megapixels sensor which will very likely used by a new Full Frame camera in 2013. Dxo writes: “The Nikon D800E received an overall DxOMark score of 96 points, making it the best camera ever tested at DxOMark. It edged out the D800 by a single point.

Water of Iceland from Jerka on Vimeo.

On top you can watch a video shot in Island. It really makes me wish to take a flight to there today :(
And Bob Towery posted his work done in Ireland with the NEX-7.

At that point it may be a good idea to post a new collection of SonyAlphaRumor readers work. Please send me your best work done with a Sony camera at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Please one work only!

P.S.: Tomorrow I am out for climbing but I have scheduled some news for you :)

NEX-7 remains on the top end of all Amazon rankings: Amazon US (place 4)Amazon Germany (place 5),Amazon France (place 6) and at Amazon UK (2). Result do change hourly!

(SR4) Lens codes leaked: New 55-300mm and updated 300mm lens coming?

Share

For a short moment the Sony Service website listed new codes for new Alpha mount lenses. They quickly removed the codes but Matthias from the German Minolta Forum was able to copy the text.

There are two new lenses:
SAL55-300 (yes: -300)
And a new version of the current SAL300-2.8G (here at Amazon).

Other already available lenses got a new “UC” suffix which probably means “Ultra Clean” (Click on name to see the current lens at Amazon):
SAL-50F14 UC
SAL-85F14Z UC
SAL-100M28 UC
SAL-135F28 UC
SAL-1870 UC
SAL-18200 UC
SAL-70200G UC
SAL-75300 UC

From the past experience that those kind of leaks are very reliable. I heard of an updated SAL-70200G coming at Photokina so there is a fair chance Sony may update all the other mentioned lenses too!

(SR4) Sony is working on the release of two different 50mm Alpha lenses.

Share

The past months I got different rumors about a new 50mm prime. Some sources said it’s a Zeiss, some a Sony, some said it’s f/1.2 and some said it’s f/1.4. I was puzzling a lot until I got it why the rumors were not matching. These are actually two different lenses! One is the already mentioned (on SAR) 50mm f/1.2 Zeiss SSM lens that should arrive along the A99. Another is the updated version of the current 50mm f/1.4 SAL lens. I don’t know when the last one is goint to be announced. I am still waiting before to upgrade this rumor to the “SR5″ level. I want to get some feedback from my very top sources. So be patient until I can give you some further details.

P.S.: What’s SR5 is that there will be more than one new Full Frame Alpha Lens in September (about time!).

Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

NEX-7 shoots Katherine Crockett!

Share

:Katherine:Crockett:Prologue:Blue: from Mike Kobal on Vimeo.

As you know our friend and professional fashion photographer Mike Kobal owns a Sony NEX-7. And he used that camera for a shooting with Katherine Crockett. She is the Martha Graham’s principal dancer! More about that here: http://www.mikekobal.com/blog/?p=5203.
Ronmartblog posted the NEX-7 review: “My only real gripe about this camera are the annoying menu system and its lack of quick access to things like white balance and macro mode. I also hated that I didn’t have a zoomable live view like I would on a DSLR. If you are hell bent on going with a more compact alternative to a DSLR, then I think you’ll be happy with the Sony NEX-7.
Zelenpol announced some colored NEX-7 half cases. The Black version is already available on eBay (Click here).

(SR5) Coming soon: 16-50mm f/3,5-5,6 OSS G zoom E-mount lens!

Share

Top sources told us that it is the High Quality G zoom lens that is coming along the new NEX-F5. It has a focal length of 16-50mm, an aperture of f/3,5-5,6 and comes with OSS (Image stabilization). I have no info about the possible price yet. I also don’t know if there will be a second lens too.

Anyway, this will be definitely a better lens on my NEX-7 than the current 18-55mm kit lens. Let’s cross the fingers that the price isn’t much higher! Oh, almost forgot it…I want it in Black too!
