Luminous Landscape first impressions about the A65 (with A900 comparison!).

Share
[shoplink 8459][/shoplink] Whenever Luminous Landscapes posts a review (or preview in this case) I am very glad to link to it because I think they make a very good job by giving a real photographer point of view about the new cameras. Click here to read their latest A65 first impression article.

LL likes the new EVF:(It) is really a game changer, and compared to a small and dim DSLR finder is likely to be preferred. Compared to an optical viewfinder like the one on the A900 it may be another story though. The A900’s vewfinder and prism remain about as good as it gets.” but they don’t recommend to buy the [shoplink 8459]A65[/shoplink] with the kit lens: “The high image quality that the A65 is capable of simply won’t be able to shine through if one is limited to this lens.

LL tested the A65 with a pre-production firmware V1.02. The good news is that “Certainly ISOs from 100 through and including 1600 are essentially noise free in any sized print.”. Than they compared the A65 with the A900: “At ISO 100 the A65 shows somewhat more noise at 100% on-screen than the [shoplink 3032 ebay]A900[/shoplink], which is essentially noise free. The A65’s noise is absolutely invisible in three quarter to mid-tones, and completely invisible in normal sized prints in any part of the tonal range, but in the quarter tones on screen there definitely is some luminance noise visible.

About the video quality:I have noted that so-called jello-cam (rolling shutter) seems to be almost non-existent on both cameras. I will be meeting with Sony factory engineers shortly and look forward to an opportunity to find out what is going on with this new sensor.

There is a lot more info to read on LL so please take time to read the full article (Click here).

Thanks again LL for your nice work!!!

Sony NEX-5n video news roundup (EosHD calls the VG20 piece of crap)

Sony NEX 5N *vs* FS100 and NEX VG20 – hands on comparison

EosHD (Click here) made a Sony NEX 5N *vs* FS100 and NEX VG20 hands on comparison and said the “VG20 is an absolute piece of crap“. And: “Sony did an exceptionally poor job of the ergonomics on both cameras (VG20 and FS100). I just prefer the simplicity and size of the NEX 5N, and it means your rigging can be far more creative, lighter and more flexible.”

Also Will Vazquez made a Sony NEX-5N vs FS100 vs Canon T2i video quality comparison: “The NEX 5N has some aliasing, but it appears better than the T2i. I think the NEX-5N trounces the T2i in video.”. The video is here below:

Imaging Resource posted a video you can watch below about the Sony NEX-5N with LA-EA2 Lens Adapter (found via SonyAlphaNex).

Download the first video made with the NEX-7!

Share

The video on top has been shot with the NEX-7! Be aware that the camera was using the firmware version 0.3! The video doesn’t really look good yet but I ma sure this is far away from what the final NEX-7 can deliver in terms of video quality. Firmware is in baby stage, the video was taken in full automatic mode and without knowing what kind of settings you should use to get the best out of the cam. And than there is also that youtube conversion. Try to analyze the original video: You can download the full original file by clicking on that Torrent-link: http://tinyurl.com/3txxcyu. Pancakes ideas for your NEX: Konica Hexanon AR 40mm f/1.8

Share
[shoplink 8845 ebay][/shoplink]

Introduction:
Very soon the postman will ring on my door and deliver to me the just bought NEX-5n. But what I am missing in the current NEX lens lineup are pancakes! I’m googling around to find some nice pancakes I can use on my NEX and I thought it would be nice to share with you my findings!

The Konica Hexanon AR 40mm f/1.8:
Today I collected some news about the [shoplink 8845 ebay]Konica Hexanon AR 40mm f/1.8[/shoplink] lens. You can use it on your NEX via AR to NEX mount adapters ([shoplink 8844 ebay]Click here to find them on eBay[/shoplink]). The lens itself costs around $60 and you can find plenty of them (used) on [shoplink 8842 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. On your NEX this will become a 60mm f/1.8 lens. Almost a perfect lens for portraits! And it is really small for being that fast!

What I found:
A very nice set of image samples from “Panuraj” taken with the NEX-5 on Flickr (Click here).
Another set of image samples from “Flyingdate” taken with the NEX-5 on Flickr (Click here).
Test at dpreview forum: “Good news – the lens does not disappoint! Solid all-round performance. It is ever-so-slightly soft at full open aperture – more of that slightly ‘dreamy’ quality some of these older lenses tend to have (I can even see that being something that can be played with and used), but quickly gets extremely sharp at only 2 stops down or so.

What do you think:

Should Sony launch a series of f/1.2 (or faster) FE lenses for creative use?

C. Garrard: “the NEX-7 is likely to be a Trojan Horse in the camera industry”

Share

The NEX-7 and the NEX-5n are the hotseller on Amazon. Four different NEX camera kits made it into the top 20 (Click here to see the full ranking)!!! And I bet the NEX-7 will stay on top of that ranking for a very long time. The NEX-7 is receiving a lot of praises. Carl Garrard had the chance to play a bit with the Nex-7: “This is a camera that not only seems to strike the “classic” strings , but also strikes the “hi tech science tool” strings in my heart. It simultaneously gives me the impression that it is both designed to be functional yet ultra high tech at the very same time. I’ve never held or used a camera like it. I repeat, the NEX-7 is likely to be a Trojan Horse in the camera industry.” (Source: Dpreview forum). And also Whatdigitalcamera writes that: “The NEX-7 we handled is an early pre-production model and we were not allowed to put an SD card in it to assess to image quality, as there’s still some tweaking to be done to the firmware, but from a handling and usability perspective the NEX-7 is impressive.

The NEX-7 is the last of the new new Sony cameras that will get into production. That’s why you don’t see any official preview on the web. Sony hasn’t finsihed to work on the beta-firmware. Let’s hope they will finish soon because I really want to see some preview!

Preorder the NEX-7 at Amazon (Click here).
And the NEX-5n is now in Stock at Amazon: Body only (Click here), or with 18-55mm lens (Click here) and the silver version (Click here).
