The Sony sensor inside the Nikon D800 is the best of it’s class (says DxOmark)

Share

As you know it is the Sony 36 Megapixel Full Frame sensor that powers the current Nikon D800 topseller camera (Click here to see the ranking). And as far as I know Nikon has a (one year?) exclusivity on that sensor. DxOmark just tested the sensor quality (Click here). It beats all current FF sensors and “is comparable to the best medium-format sensor, and in fact does even better — much better — as ISO increases.” It shows that Sony sensor technology greatly improved during the last couple of years. Even Canon has to worry.

My guess is that the Canon 5DmarkIII is loosing his war against the Nikon D800. This may be a chance for Sony if they don’t wait to much. A double SLT FF camera announcement (24 and 36 Megapixels) would probably be the right thing to do!

Pressures to change my domain name :(

I really don’t know how I should talk about the following issue. I can’t go into any details because I don’t want to have any troubles with anyone. All I can tell you is that some “superior forces” are trying to make the life on that website harder. They really don’t understand (as our readers do) how valuable this website can be for them. It’s going on since a while and it is a very tuff battle. One day I may will tell you everything but I can’t do it right now.

That’s why I will be probably forced to change the domain name by dropping the word “Sony”. That will make keeping the website alive much easier. My question to you is the following:

The camera that can grab back attention from the Canon-Nikon launch is the...

If you have other domain name suggestions please send me an email to sonyalpharumors@gmail.com (and please check if the domain name is available).

P.S.: Hope one day the “superior forces” will understand that Internet is changing the world and you should learn to live with that idea or at least try to contact me directly instead of playing some “not so nice game“.

First 500mm f/4.0 review at Heise.de

Share

The German Heise website (Click here for the english google translation) is the first website posting image samples and a short review of the Super Quality and most expensive Alpha mount lense ever made. The reviewer says the lens is “impressive” but suggests you to borrow the lens when you really need it instead of buying it. The lens cost $13000 at BHphoto (Click here). For us “poor” people go for the [shoplink 11531 ebay]Sigma 500mm f/4.5 EX APO (Click here)[/shoplink] which costs $5000 only! :)

Oh, and read this: Photographer uses red-dot gunsight as AF assist (Cnet US).

(SR2) First specs about the A1S square sensor…

Share
[shoplink 11932 ebay][/shoplink] One of the sources that told me about the SLT camera prototype with square sensor send me some info. Please be aware that this is a camera prototype and that there is no way to be sure yet that it is coming for real.

1) 37 Megapixel
2) 36mm x 36mm square sensor
3) Works with all current Alpha mount lenses
4) It is the biggest camera to date (beats the [shoplink 3032]Sony A900[/shoplink] in terms of size)
5) The SLT technology permits the camera to be smaller than it would have been with the classical mirror box and optical viewfinder technology
6) New generation of square electronic viewfinder
7) 3×3 inch OLED display

The 36mm square format allows you to choose between different formats on the fly or in post production.

P.S.: Kodak once made a digital back with square sensor. The [shoplink 11932 ebay]Kodak DCS Pro Back 645 (here on eBay)[/shoplink].

SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

Plenty of new NEX-7 accessories (wood grip, Nauticam viewfinder and more).

Share

The last days I got multiple links about new Sony NEX-7 accessories. Many readers already own the NEX-7 so this might will interest you:

ReWo cage for NEX 7 at EosHD (Click here). A new custody at DC.watch (Click here). A new enhanced Viewfinder for the Nauticam case (Click here). And a very crazy handmade wood grip made by a Chinese guy (Xitek forum). The NEX-7 popularity will very likely broaden the offer of accessories. Feel free to send me a notice of whatever curious new stuff comes out!

P.S.: The NEX-7 still is on top of the rankings at Amazon US (place 1), Amazon Germany (place 1), Amazon France (place 3) and Amazon UK (place 4).
