Samyang announces the 24mm Tilt Shift Lens for Sony.

Share

There is a new A-mount lens for us! Samyang just released the 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC Tilt Shift lens. This is the press text:

Samyang Optics is about to release a new lens with the perspective control function — Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC. The official product presentation will take place on September 18th 2012, during international photographic Photokina fairs held in Cologne.

New Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC is a wide-angle, full-frame lens fitted with the perspective control and tilt-shift functions. Its unique optical and mechanical construction makes it an ideal tool for architecture and landscape photography. The product will be also extremely useful when convergence of the lines in the frame is required. Owing to the mechanism of optical axis tilt, focus depth operation brings utterly new quality and possibilities, enabling photographers to shape the image according to their individual needs, both on digital and nalog carriers.

Optical design of Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC comprises of sixteen lenses arranged in eleven groups, including two aspherical lens and two lens made of ED glass with low dispersion factor. Thanks to this solution, the lens perfectly reproduces detailed elements and gives splendid image plasticity, also with the T-S function on. Each optical component of the product was covered with multi-layered, anti-reflective UMC coatings, which provide great light transmission factor, high contrasts and render only natural colors of the photographed scene. With sophisticated optics and developed T-S function, Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC is currently the most advanced lens produced by Samyang Optics and may compete with similar lenses of other brands.

Tilt-Shift function

Tilt-Shift function in Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC allows for smooth and individual adjustment of the focus plane angle by +/-8.5 and enables parallel shift of the optical axis by +/-12 millimeters. To make Tilt-Shift function even more seamless, both the lens mount as well as Tilt-Shift section may be rotated on the optical axis. The Tilt-Shift section may be rotated left by 90 degrees (with 30 degree adjustment), while mount of the lens may be rotated both in left and right direction by 90 degrees, also with 30 degree adjustment.

Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC will be available with mounts for Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K and Sony A. We welcome everyone to visit us at Photokina at our booth A025 in the hall 2.1.

(SR5) A99 with clean HDmi out!

Sony A77 Clean HDMI Output Test from Dave Dugdale on Vimeo.

Short update about the A99. Unlike the current [shoplink 8461]Sony A77[/shoplink] (See video on top) the A99 will have a “clean” Hdmi output. You will be able to on/off the menu info on the HDmi video. It’s a little but very important feature for filmmakers. What I don’t know yet is the compression format of the HDmi streaming.

Stay tuned! And keep in mind that Sony will announce all that super nice stuff next week on Wednesday (European time).

DxOmark tests the RX100 (beats all Nikon 1 cameras!)

Share

DxOmark (Click here) posted the full Sony RX100 sensor analysis. And the results are impressive! It easily beats the [shoplink 13794 ebay]Nikon 1[/shoplink] sensor which has the same size but by no means the same quality. And not only that, it also beats all Micro Four Thirds sensor even if they are consideable larger (Check here for example). Again, an amazing result!

Fuji X-E1 has Sony viewfinder. Zeiss for NEX back in Stock in USA.

Share

USA readers are struggling to find the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 for NEX in Stock. The good news is that today fourteen lenses are in Stock for the normal price via Samys at Amazon (Click here).

The other news is that Fuji announced the X-E1 which features the Sony 2,36k dot OLED viewfinder (Click here to see the X-E1 at Amazon). While Dpreview wrote that this is “likely the same NEX-7 viewfinder” this may not be truth. The NEX-7 viewfinder has a contrast ratio of 3500:1 (Source: Digitalrev) while the Fuji X-E1 viewfinder has a higher contrast ratio of 5000:1 (Source: Cnet). This would mean that the X-E1 uses the same viewfinder of the upcoming NEX-6 and A99 cameras!
Anyway, to learn mroe about the Fuji viewfinder check FujiRumors where you can get a full roundup. We will have to wait six days only to have our own showdown!

Zeiss will do more fast prime lenses for the NEX system?

Share

There is an interesting although a bit “vague” news posted by Zeiss today (Click here): “Another highlight will be the presentation of a design study, with which Carl Zeiss will offer a sneak preview of a new family of autofocus lenses for mirrorless system cameras (CSC) that will most likely be available in mid-2013. Due to their performance and high speed, these new lenses will be ideal for deliberate photo composition, making them perfect for more sophisticated photographers as well. Carl Zeiss plans to initially offer fixed focal lengths in the wide angle and standard range as well as a macro.

They do not specify for which system! It’s my guess that these new Zeiss lenses will work like that two 19mm and 30mm Sigma lenses. They will have a “universal” design and a change in the mount only in order to fit on all different mirrorless system cameras. If it’s trues than this is good news! We need more high quality lenses like the Zeiss 24mm that is right now finally available in US (Click here at Amazon).

You have any lens on your wishlist that Zeiss should absolutely make?

Picture of a modified Sony RX100 ;)

Share

You got a shock? Don’t worry this is a fake picture and NOT real! A designer from SLRclub created it because he is missing the hot shoe on his Sony RX100. And he added a Silver strip that I personally really like a lot! It makes it look more…elegant. We may should open a contest and let our SAR readers “imagine” how Sony camera should look alike. But first let’s see the real new stuff that is coming soon!
