(SR5) NEX-5R and NEX-6 can be controlled in remote via Phone. NEX-6 has a 2359k dot image on viewfinder.

A NEX-6 rendering based on the leaked images by KTFturbo.

Remote control
The NEX-5R and NEX-6 can be controlled in remote via Phone. There should be an APP for Android phones (so for example for these Sony Xperia phones) that will give you full remote control of the NEX cameras.  I don’t know yet if there will be an iPhone app too.

I also have two more news about the NEX-6:
1) the camera has a new 2359k dot image on viewfinder.
2) The Hot shoe is the same of the A99.

Announcement:
There was a bit of a confusion on the announcement date. This depends from the time zone. I know “think” the announcement will be made on August 29th in Japan. Hope to get a reliable hour soon. The NEX-5R only will be announced. The A99, NEX-6 and E-mount FF camcorder will be announced in mid September. Filmmaker will not believe me on this: NEX-VG900 Full Frame E-mount camera for a tiny bit more than 3.000 Euro!

Share

The image on top shows the just announced Sony NEX-EA50UH Camcorder with 18-200mm Servo Zoom Lens. The Full Frame NEX-VG900 costs less!

I know I am going to be crucifixed for posting this rumor. But I am sure that the rumor will turn out to be true within the next few weeks. So please cheaters…just have a bit of patience before to attack SAR :)

The new NEX VG-900
We just got an unexpected news via trusted sources. Until now I thought Sony is working on a High End and expensive E-mount FF camcorder only but after talking with multiple sources I can unveil this:
Sony will announce the new NEX-VG900 at around mid September. It is a Full Frame E-mount camcorder (Full Frame in photographic terms!). And it costs just a bit over 3.000 Euro! It records 1080p60 in AVCHD format (24Mbps/s). A FF camcorder for 3.xxx Euro is something almost unbelievable. Of course as usual, this alone will not make the camcorder successful. I am working to get the details of the camcorder and hope to post them soon.

E-mount FF
I repeat it again. Current E-mount lenses like the super [shoplink 8450]Zeiss 24mm f/1.8[/shoplink] will work in crop mode only. And you will have a “special adapter” to make [shoplink 13431 ebay]Alpha lenses[/shoplink] work on the cameras. There will be no E-mount FF lenses yet. For those of you that take more about photography than stills…a “photocamera” with FF E-mount is scheduled for a 2013 release.

Reminder: There is an announcement scheduled for August 29th (NEX-5R) while the E-mount FF camcorder, the NEX-6 and the A99 will be announced two weeks later! Stay tuned on SAR, subscribe our RSS feed and Twitter stream and the Facebook comunity to not miss any hot news!

NEX-5R announcement on August 29th (SLT, E-mount FF and NEX-6 in September)

Share

Quick update about the announcement date. It looks like Sony is going to have an announcement of the NEX-5R only(!) on August 29th in the afternoon (European time). The A99, NEX-6, NEX and Alpha lenses and the E-mount FF surprise are going to be announced in mid September. P.S.: August 29th is next Wednesday.

Something terrific: I am now writing my next rumor. It is a must read rumor for all film makers and it concerns the new E-mount FF camcorder(s). I just got a surprising info (rated SR5)…it is so surprising that I bet that film makers on different forums will write that I invented the rumor. I expect many personal attacks and SAR denigration. I ask all these guys to just wait until mid September before to kill me…ok? :)

(SR5) A99 has phase detection pixel on sensor!

Share

The A99 will be the first Full Frame SLT camera. And we just heard a bit of a surprising news from top sources. The A99 24 Megapixel sensor has phase detection AF pixels on sensor too! Like the upcoming NEX-5R and NEX-6 cameras. I guess you now have one major question…why the hell have phase detection pixels on sensor when there is already a Phase detection module capturing a percentage of the light reflected by the semitransparent mirror? We have been told that the accuracy and speed can be improved through that dual phase detection system. Multiple sources already told us the AF speed is amazingly fast and very accurate in their first testings with the camera.

Some of the sources told me this is the fastest AF of any DSLR and the video quality is also better than the Canon 5DmarkIII. No info yet about the image quality yet. I am working on many new rumors. Stay tuned, i think there is still room fro some other surprise!

One more thing: NEX announcement date is August 28th! Be sure to be on SAR on that day!

The personal E-mount FF summary (and link to Photoclubalpha)

Share

Something personal first:
Every time I post a “bigger than usual” rumor I confess that I do hit the “Publish” button with quite a mixed feeling. On one side it’s nice after a long work of digging and searching to share a news to you folk. On the other side there is certain anxiety caused by many factors. First it’s hard for me to use right words because and right arguments in a non native language. I hope you are always aware of that. I often see that your “perception” of a rumor often differs a bit (or a lot) depending on what kind of words I used or not. So I am going to be very careful within that post :) Than of course the biggest anxiety is that a rumor turns out to be wrong. I have been mostly right on SR5 rumors I posted in the past but I know well that all my long work will get messed up if I do one very big mistake only. And the day may come this will happen. I know for certain that there are different “elements” that have interest to spread wrong rumors. There are many reasons to do that (and I may explain them in detail in a future post). And that’s why the biggest work I do on SAR is not the writing of the article, but the long an patient work of waiting and searching and again waiting and trying to find out more from different sources.

Technical aspects of the “E-mount FF”
After posting the E-mount FF rumor sceptical argued that 1) an FF sensor wouldn’t fit within the current E-mount 2) FF E-mount lenses would be almost impossible to make. I am glad that David Kilpatrick wrote that article on Photoclubalpha (Click here). It’s a very technical summary that clearly explains you that “it is possible“. And Sony itself (read Toru Kotsumotu at DC.watch) said that the NEX mount has been designed with Full Frame sensor in mind. Again, thanks to David for your very well written article!

The Sony strategy around the “E-mount FF”
I will sum up in very short what I heard from trusted sources:
1) There will be soon a Sony official news related to the E-mount FF. Actually from what I heard it looks like Sony “anticipated” and pushed the E-mount FF development.
2) At least the first E-mount FF camera is not something interesting for 98% of our readers. They will be Camcorders. To make it even more clear. No NEX-7 alike E-mount FF camera is coming right now. But I have been told it is “on schedule”.  And there are different prototypes, some with E-mount FF and some with A mount FF. I will have more info about that within that week!
3) For now Sony decided to NOT introduce any E-mount FF lenses. The initial strategy is to use current Alpha mount lenses via a “special adapter” and other Full Frame lenses (read Leica and so on) via adapter. It is my personal understanding that current E-mount lenses are NOT designed for FF. But current E-mount lenses will work in crop mode on future E-Mount FF cameras.
4) There is no info yet if Sony will ever design FF E-mount lenses for that system. My very personal suggestion for Sony on that point is….Do it!!!

Why I do believe the “E-mount FF” could be a (too slow) revolution.
The Canon/Nikon domination in the Full Frame world is almost absolute. It is my believe that one way to become competitive is to offer something completely new like it would be by launching a Full Frame mirrorless system. Now I believe to know through my sources that Sony is going to do that…but my fear is that they will do it too slowly. It would have been nice to have E-Mount FF lenses right from the start (but again they will not!). The risk is they will still “give” Nikon and Canon the chance to catch up after some time. The current limited NEX lens range is an example of how Sony should NOT act. The cameras are extremely popular but the camera owners can’t buy the right lenses for it. Sony missed the chance to expand considerably their market share explosively and they misses some “easy” earnings too.

So like it was with the SLT and NEX (APS-C) introduction Sony will again “start a new revolution” but with the risk that they will be “too slow in fulfilling it“. Let’s hope they will listen to the voice of the real customers…you!

Big hug,
Andrea (the Admin)

Double Samyang/Rokinon 8mm fisheye lens review.

Share

Not Sony only but also Samyang is rumored to announce new E-mount lenses in September. These will support AF and electornic aperture control. For now Samyang released one manual lens only, the cheap and nice Samyang/Rokinon fisheye lens that got reviewed by two well known testers:
Kurtmunger: “The Rokinon 8mm F/2.8 fisheye lens performs superbly; there’s nothing negative to say about it other than sun flare is strong at times, but that may enhance your image depending on the feeling you want to present to the viewer
ePhotozine: “The exceptionally low price of £270 for the performance this lens delivers makes this lens a simple choice for those in the market for a fisheye lens for their Sony NEX

This lens can be purchased at Amazon (as Samyang) and again at Amazon (as Rokinon). And on [shoplink 8622 ebay]eBay (as Samyang)[/shoplink] and on [shoplink 5756 ebay]eBay (as Rokinon)[/shoplink].

I like Rokinon/Samyang lenses a lot and I recommend you the following two lenses for Alpha mount:
1) The 35mm f/1.4: In US you can find it as Rokinon at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here), BHphoto (Click here) and on [shoplink 7453 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. In Europe the name is Samyang and you can find it on [shoplink 7380 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink] and with the name Wallimex again on [shoplink 7831 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].
2) The 85mm f/1.4: You can get for $274 on Amazon (Click here), branded with the name Rokinon on [shoplink 7456 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink] and branded with the name Samyang on [shoplink 7454 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].
