(SR4) NEX-7n could be the only NEX or A mount camera ot come this year.

Share

I know it sounds surprising but the change is big that the NEX-7 successor may be the only interchangeable camera to come this year. This means no other NEX or Alpha camera will be announced. As I told you many times before the new Sony CEO is pushing to release camera with game changing tech rather than small updates only. That’s why the A77 successor and two SLT-FF have been taken off the roadmap.

In short, in 2014 we will have new A-mount FF cameras, new NEX-FF cameras using new viewfinder and new sensor tech. I know it’s a long time to go but I hope to get some info about the new roadmap soon. I may can entertain you a bit while you are waiting for the big 2014 news :)

By the way, I don’t know what the new sensor tech could be. But I saw plenty of patents with “Foveon alike” sensors (See Sigma DP series). That would mean, true 100% color info for every single pixel, no AA filter and bigger pixels (or more Megapixels). Yep, that would be a hell of a sensor!

P.S.: The RX series will be extended. Ther eis no delay here!

What’s more important for us is that Zeiss will have an announcement on May 7th. Be sure to be on SAR that day!

Sigma 30mm will not be made for A-mount “due to the older version selling poorly”

The 30mm f/1.4 Canon mount version

SAR reader Okie-Centric (Thanks!) got an answer from Sigma about their new 30mm f/1.4 lens not being available as A-mount versions:

Upon inquiring about the future of Sigma A-Mount lenses, got this response. There was a little back & forth too. Now I like Sigma all the more, for their quick and personal response(s)…..
Good morning,
We will still be making Sony mount for some of the new Global Vision lenses. The new 35mm as well as the new 17-70 both have Sony versions. The new 120-300 won’t be in Sony, but the older version wasn’t either. The only upgraded lens that has dropped Sony was the new 30mm and from I can tell, that was due to the older version selling poorly. Our parent company didn’t see the demand for the lens and therefore decided not to produce it.
Please be assured that going forward, Sigma will still be producing lenses for Sony cameras, however which new lenses get made in Sony are determined on a case by case basis.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day!
Sincerely,
——-(name removed)
SIGMA Corporation of America”

That’s bad news. By the way, the old 30mm lens version wans’t really a good quality lens (see test at Photozone). That could also be a reaosn why they didn’t sell many A-mount lenses!

P.S.: The new 35mm f/1.4 will ship next week according to BHphoto (Click here).

(SR5) Zeiss will announce the three E-mount primes on May 7!

Share

Good news folks! Zeiss is going to announce three E-mount primes on May 7! We will get the Zeiss Planar 32mm f/1.8 and the Distagon 12mm f/2.8 (with shipment in June) and the Macro Planar 50mm f/2.8 (shipment late 2013). All three lenses cover the APS-C sensor area and not will not cover the FF area of the current VG900 and future FF NEX. But they will of course work in crop mode on those cameras too.

I am still not sure about the exact price but it should be a little bit over $1000 like the current [shoplink 8450]Zeiss 24mm f/1.8[/shoplink] lens.

Woudl you love to get a High End A9r with new larger body design and this new 102MP sensor?

Sony 10-18mm tested at Photozone (And Nex-6 kit for $799)

Share

Quick note for US readers: $100 savings on the NEX-6 with kit lens that now sells for $799 at [shoplink 18017 ebay]CameraLand (Click here)[/shoplink].

Our friends at Photozone (Click here) tested the Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS lens. And they actually like the lens: “Upon first contact, you are positively surprised about the high build quality. All-metal lens body are fairly rare these days. The lens is capable of delivering sharp results at medium aperture settings.” But they also shared their thoughts about one quality issue: “while the build quality of the lens is very fine, we continue to be concerned about the centering quality of Sony products. Ever since we started the NEX tests, we are either terribly unlucky or the centering is as bad as it is

I hope Sony is reading this…and improves the mentioned issue.

Sigma 135mm F1.8 DG OS Art lens coming. But is Sigma ignoring the A-mount system?

Share

Sigma is quite busy launching one lens after another. And it sounds like the next lens could be a 135mm f/1.8 DG OS Art lens. Sounds great but…

…the two newest ART lenses, the 30mm f/1.4 (Click here) and the new 18-35mm f/1.8 (Click here) are not available for A-mount. I hope Sigma’s new policy is not to ignore the A-mount system :(

If you know some Sigma managers ask them if they plan to release their new lenses for Sony too! Thanks!
