Alex:so many people have been asking me how i do i tethered shoot in the studio with the sony A7r. Here is a link to a little tutorial i posted: http://www.alexk.com/sony-a7r-vs-canon-5dmkiii-can-sony-replace-the-canon-in-tethered-shooting-in-the-studio/

Louis:Hello! I just wanted to share a video I made while scuba diving with my RX100 in the Philippines last November. It’s still the Mark One of the RX100 but it still does amazing images! (I took it with the more affordable but really great Ikelite Housing and a red filter with no artificial light). Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HewhJDeyeo8

Hounsell:Andrea, from the video you can see that this was done with Sony Gear A99 & A7, nice to see these cameras performing well under tough conditions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBJyo0tgLnw

David:Hi, I thought you could be interested in share my last timelapse in your web. It is a flowers blooming timelapse, hope you like it https://vimeo.com/98276732

Josh:Just wanted to share a little project we did using an A6000 and an A7. Camera’s worked great and the small size was really handy for some of the work.

Luke:Here’s a quick travel video that I shot with it along with some photos with my A7r https://vimeo.com/100901015. I am very impressed that such a small camera can give such a good image. What I’d liked to find is to see if anyone has come up with a small 3 axis gimble for it yet?
I did kickstarter of on these Pop and Locks https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2120229387/the-pop-and-lock-a-folding-camera-support-built-fo which looks promising for a super-small travel stabilizer (can’t wait to get mine).

Open Box A7 now sells for “virtual” $1,000 only!

[shoplink 27680 ebay][/shoplink]

The US store Samys is selling Open Box and Brand new Sony A7 with 28-70mm kits for $1,498 only on their [shoplink 27680 ebay]eBay store (Click here)[/shoplink]. The lens only costs $498 and therefore you pay $1,000 only for the A7 Full Frame camera. A few years ago it would have been almost impossible for me to believe that one day I could buy a Full Frame camera for $1,000!!!

Probably in a few years we will buy 200 megapixel Medium Format cameras for $1,000 too :)

(SR2) Is the registered camera the new entry level FF E-mount?

Share

Last week I reported about the registration of a new Sony System Camera at the Indonesian agency Postel. The camera is registered with the code “WW024382” which usually defines a Full Frame camera.

An anonymous source said that this is the cheap entry level FF E-mount camera.

I am yet not sure about the rumor but like I told you before Sony indeed published a patent describing such a camera. And here is the official design:

Let’s hope the new source is right but for now keep your feet on solid ground!

New Sigma 50mm ART lens review by Kai and CameraLabs.

Share

One of the most amazing lenses you can get for your Sony A-mount (or E-mount via adapter) is certainly the 50mm f/1.4 Sigma ART lens. The lens now got reviewed by Kai from Digitalrev (video on top) and by Gordon from Cameralabs who writes:

The new Sigma 50mm f1.4 ART is a truly excellent lens which comfortably out-performs anything costing even twice the price. It sets a new standard for 50mm lenses and easily earns our Highly Recommended award.

The A-mount lens can be preordered in USA Amazon (Click here) at BHphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here). And in Europe at WexUK (Click here) and WexDe (Click here).

New Sony A7s reviews: You knew A7s Dynamic range is damn close to the $40,000 Arri Amira?

Share

Cinema5D (Click here) posted a full A7s dynamic range test (in video):

Here we tested usable dynamic range of the given cameras. With 14.1 stops the usable dynamic range of the A7S comes surprisingly close to the Arri Amira with its legendary Alexa sensor (see our full review here).
This is an extremely good dynamic range rating and is fascinating considering that the A7S is available at a fraction of the Amira’s price and is also in a completely different weight and size class. While the Amira will outperform the A7S in other tests, the dynamic range is a very important attribute to consider when working with a camera.

Gizmodo posted the full A7s review and writes:

The A7s is a great demonstration of technology powerful enough to make you forget about its flaws. The Panasonic GH4 has more tools, more options, more usability—with 4K built right in, and to spectacular effect. But the micro four thirds sensor of the GH4 offers its own compromises: low light is not very good, shallow depth of field is constrained, as is field of view. But here’s the real kicker. The A7s will literally increase the possible scenarios in which you can get a good shot, by way of low light performance. No amount of 4K, 8K, or how ever many K can accomplish that.

Canon and Sony lead the camera market in Japan (first 6 months of 2014).

Share

BCN (found via Dicahub) posted the market share data for the camera sales in Japan during the first half of the current year. There is only the info about the market leader of each category (not info yet about the 2nd or 3rd place and so on). Here are the leaders:

fixed lens: canon (25.8%)
dslr: canon (56.9%)
mirrorless: sony (36.4%)
video camera: sony (39.8%)
photo frame: sony (38.2%)

As you know in Japan the Mirrorless market is just as big as the DSLR market. And it’s likely to growth faster than the DSLR market the coming years. So it may will happen one day: Sony surpassing Canon in the system camera world?
