Samyang 10mm f/2.8 comes for A and E mount. First image samples!

Samyang just released a new lens that will be available for both, A and E-mount camera owners. It’s the 10mm f/2.8 “ED AS NCS CS” lens. It covers the APS-C sensor area and is priced at around $400. It will ship from end January. Image samples can be seen at Samyangs website (Click here).

Samyang press release:

Prototype version of Samyang 10mm f/2.8 lens has been presented to the public on Photokina 2012 fairs. Samyang has stepped its gear and introduced a focused development program to obtain the highest possible optical parameters and reduce the product’s size at the same time. These efforts resulted in the latest version of Samyang 10 1:2.8 ED AS NCS CS lens featuring parameters and capabilities comparable to the best wide-angle prime and zoom lenses on the market.

Samyang 10mm 1:2.8 ED AS NCS CS is an ideal tool for indoor, architecture and landscape shooting. It provides an exceptionally wide field of view of up to 109.5 degrees and rectilinear image mapping function. Owing to a fast f/2.8 lens speed you can also use the lens in low light conditions. This is why it turns out a useful tool for sport photography and photojournalism purposes. The product’s optics comprises 14 elements divided into 10 groups, this includes 2 aspherical AS lenses and one lens made of extra-low dispersion glass. During development works on the prototype version the lens was fitted with an embedded lens hood which ensures more compact size of the lens and reduces its weight by approximately 160 grams*. * – applicable to a version with Canon E mount

NCS (Nano Coating System)

Samyang 10mm 1:2.8 ED AS NCS CS is the first Samyang Optics lens featuring a nano crystal anti-reflection coating system. This technology provides lower reflection factor than (U)MC system as the coating is now applied more evenly on the surface of the lens. Benefits brought by the nano crystal layer include better light transmission, increased resistance to reflections and higher contrast, and all of this translates into supreme optical resolution of the lens.

The best Sony QX100 video review (TheCameraStoreTV)

Share

Chris Niccolls really explained in the best possible way the many flaws and very few positives of the Sony QX cameras. I think Sony should give him the 2014-2015 prototypes for testing so that Sony has time to adjust the flaws before they release them. So please Sony, send him the new A1, A79, A9, A77 and what else you have in your engineers office :)

Sony A7 gets DxOmarked and reviewed: has a + ½ stop advantage over the A99.

Bildschirmfoto 2013-12-05 um 18.42.05

So how does the A7 compare with the A99 and Nikon D610? DxO (Click here) writes:

Unsurprisingly perhaps, compared with the Nikon D610 and the firm’s SLT A99, both using a similar full-frame 24-Mpix CMOS sensor, the results are very close. Color depth between the three is similar and the A7 sits between the two with regard to the dynamic range, just +0.2 Ev separates the Nikon. However, it’s the low light performance that divides the two Sony models. While the A7 has a + ½ stop advantage over the SLT-based A99, the Nikon has a +1/3 stop over the A7, presumably on account of the latter model’s modified sensor.

And Photogrpaphyblog (Click here) posted the full A7 review:

After shooting with both the A7 and the A7R side-by-side, we’d be hard-pushed to choose between them, as both are remarkable cameras in their own right. On paper at least the A7 should offer faster auto-focusing and less noise at high ISOs than the A7R, but in reality there’s not a big enough difference between the two cameras in either regard. Instead we’d choose the A7 instead of the A7R because it’s significantly cheaper, it produces more manageable file sizes, has a higher flash sync speed, slightly faster burst shooting and a quieter shutter release.

Sony A7r and A7 reviews roundup

Share

DigitalCameraWorld posted the full A7-A7r review and says:

We had very high hopes for Sony’s innovative mirror less full-frame camera, and, for the most part, we haven’t been disappointed. Images are superb, with excellent colours and great detail reproduction – the A7R particularly of course.

Sony A7r is the camera of the year at Soundimagesplus:

It’s the best image quality I’ve ever used and it gives me the closest representation of how I see the world in my photographs. And I don’t have to put in lots of Photoshop hours to achieve that. The Sony engineers could have bespoke designed this cameras output for me, it’s just what I wanted.

Sony Q&A at Imaging Resource (says cheaper RX1 version is possible).

Share

Imaging Resource posted a Q&A session with Sony. These are some of the most important info:

– Sony’s spirit is to create something new which never existed before. We (Sony) will keep on working to create that kind of product in the future, with that spirit.
– Every single RX1 lens-sensor gets adjusted with an accuracy less than one micron.
– There will be cheaper RX1 alike cameras
– Why are FE zooms that slow? Sony says “f/2.8 isn’t very reasonable, but f/4 is reasonable for every consumer in terms of pricing point, and also the size.
– Sony is selling more QX cameras than expected
– The RX10 processor has less power consumption than the RX100MII. And therefore less overheating issues.
