Sony RX100MII tested at Dpreview. QX10/100 shipment start today.

Share

Today is the DDay for the new QX Lens cameras. They are marked as ready for shipment on Amazon US (Click here). And the QX100 counterpart, the RX100MII just got tested at Dpreview (Click here) and it earned a Silver Award:

“Overall, the RX100 II is virtually untouchable in its compact camera class. For anyone simply looking for the best image quality from a compact, the RX100 II is the answer. Enthusiasts, however, should be cautioned. Anyone who picks up the camera will love the images it produces, but someone looking for a more satisfying shooting experience might need to look elsewhere.”

This is definitely the best real-compact camera with zoom lens. I say “real” because many of the so said “compact” cameras are too big to fit comfortably in your pocket.

(UPDATED- Sold Out) The cheapest FF camera in the world is now the Sony VG900 (1145 Euro or $1,545).

Share

Question: How low can the price of a Full Frame camera drop? Answer: 1145 Euro! That’s what you pay right now for the Sony VG900 at Redcoon in Germany (Click here). Damn would I love to have a cheap NEX-FF photocamera for that price :)

UPDATE: It’s now sold out!!!

Converted in US dollars the price is $1,545. That’s lower than the already superdiscounted [shoplink 21368 ebay]Nikon D600 ($1575 here on BigValue)[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 21367 ebay]Canon 6D ($1749 here on RedTag)[/shoplink].

The SR5 rumors roundup…

Share

Sony is doing a very fine job controlling information leaks much stronger than they did with the Xperia or QX announcement in early September. But I expect specs of the new cameras to be posted the coming 1-2 weeks. In the meantime here are some SR5 rumors the last weeks and this is a roundup to remind you what could be announced soon. These are all SR5 ranked rumors which means that there is a 90% chance the info is correct:

1) At least one NEX-FF will be announced in October.
2) The camera will be displayed at the PhotoPlus show in New York City which starts on October 23.
3) The NEX-FF has a NEX-7 shape but it’s a tiny bit bigger
4) There will be a second (cheaper) NEX-FF model. We don’t know yet if it will be announced in October or a couple of months later (early 2014).
5) There will be an ILCE-7 or A7 E-mount APS-C and DSLR shaped camera (we don’t know yet if it will be announced in October or in early 2014. But the chances are good it’s coming in October already)
6) There will be a Full Frame ILCE-9 or A9 (also here we don’t know if it will be announced in October or early 2014).
7) There will be new FE (“F”ull Frame “E”-mount) lenses. The Zeiss 35mm f/2.8, the Zeiss 55mm f/1.8, a 24-70mm Zeiss, a cheaper kit zoom and maybe another portrait lens (85mm f/1.8).
8) 70-200mm GII A-mount lens (October or early 2014)
9) Sony RX10 will be announced in October (likely an APS-C fixed lens camera)
-> 10) SR4: Although not coming via my own sources I am now pretty confident that a new NEX-7R will be announced soon too! Hope trusted sources can confirm it so that I can rank it SR5!

All other rumors like the Z-shift sensor tech, A-mount mirrorless cameras, the SAL-120F28 and SEL-70400G2 lenses are ranked between SR3 and SR4. I hope to get some more info about that the next couple of days!

Important note: A-mount camera owners really shouldn’t be worried! Your “rumor time” will come soon too!

Sony A99 price drops at Amazon US (third party reseller) and DE. Also Canon lowers price.

Share

Third party resellers at Amazon are selling the A99 for less than $2,600 (Click here). Price drops are also ongoing in Germany (more here). And Sony isn’t the only one lowering the price of FF cameras. A Canon 5DmarkIII for example can be found for $2,550 on [shoplink 21345 ebay]BigValue eBay[/shoplink] which is $800 less than the original price. The days are gone when Full Frame cameras did cost a lot of money.

P.S.: I still don’t know the price of the ILCE-9 (E-mount) and A9x (A-mount) cameras but I heard the NEX-9 is likely going to be priced close to $3,000.

(SR3) Sony A79 and A9x cameras in Store by early 2014?

Share

Short break from NEX-9 and NEX-7r rumors to report a rumor about upcoming A-mount cameras. A source told me that a couple of new A-mount camera will be in Store by early 2014. This includes the A79 and the new A9x (final name not unveiled yet). Both cameras feature brand new Sony sensors (likely 36MP for the A9x) and 4 million dots OLED viewfinders. The major jump forward has been achieved on autofocus speed and accuracy.

The source didn’t unveil when these cameras will be announced but we heard of two Sony announcements to come. One in mid October (NEX-9, NEX-7R, RX10 and ILCE cameras) and on in January (likely for the new A-mount cameras?).

Sony strategy is likely the following: ILC-E-mount cameras like the A3000 will replace the low end A-mount cameras. And future A-mount cameras will focus on the semi pro and pro market.

A3000 with lens at Amazon, SonyStore, BHphoto, Adorama and Sony Canada. In Europe at Sony DE, Sony UK, Sony ES, Sony SE, Sony AT, Sony IT, Sony NL, Sony BE, Sony FI, Sony CH.

UPDATED: Image of a Pentax Full Frame DSLR (likely with Sony sensor)?

Share

Pentax could be the second company after Nikon using Sony’s Full Frame sensor. The picture on top shows the FF mirror on a Pentax camera (Source: Xitek). The camera could be announced by End of October.

UPDATE: As I don’t have my own Pentax sources I cannot tell if the rumors is correct or not. although posted on many other site in these days (like Pentaxforums and Photorumors) it seems likely that this camera isn’t coming for now.
