(SR3) Two new FE lenses coming in March? Zeiss fast prime and Zeiss f/4.0 zoom likely!

Share

According to a new source Sony will launch two new FE (Full Frame E-mount) lenses in March. As you can see on the roadmap on top a total of five new lenses will be announced in 2014. Of three of them we know a tiny bit more:
– One Zeiss fast prime lens.
– One Zeiss f/4.0 wide angle zoom.
– One G macro lens.

I hope the fast Zeiss and the f/4.0 zoom are the lenses coming in March just like the Roadmap suggests…

(SR3) New fixed lens f/2.8 constant zoom APS-C E-mount lens coming too?

Share

In two-three weeks Sony will announce the new high end APS-C E-mount camera. And a Sony rep shared some info with a Dpreview forum user. He writes:

1- Yes, the “NEX” name is gone, 100% guaranteed.
2- “Alpha” will be the new names for the APS-C mirrorless cameras.
3- APS-C Mirrorless cameras will have model numbers in the thousands….just like the Alpha 3000 and Alpha 5000.
4- NEX-7 has been discontinued. The NEX-6 will also be discontinued in the future, probably about a month before the replacement is announced. Reason why it has not been discontinued and the NEX-7 has, is because it has sold very well due to its low price.
5- NEX-7 successor will be announced in the first quarter this year. Rumored model name of “Alpha 7000” is not confirmed as of now, simply a rumor. Not even the Sony rep could tell him what the final model name will be, but he did say it will be the flagship APS-C mirrorless camera without a doubt.
6- Sony is working on a F2.8 fixed zoom lens (probably a 16-50 or 17-55). They plan to release a new APS-C lens road map when they announce the NEX-7 successor.

I am pretty confident that the information he shared is correct. A f/2.8 would be certainly a welcome addition to the ASP-C E-mount world.

Sigma confirms the 50mm f/1.4 ART will come for A-mount. And goal was to match the Zeiss Otus!

Share

Two great news reported by Imaging Resource. They had a talk with Sigma and this is what they learned:

1) It’s confirmed: “Sony Alpha mount version of this lens will be available.”

2)But the most impressive information we gleaned? When discussing their goals of image quality and sharpness for the lens, Sigma mentioned they’re confident they’ll surpass competitive products from Canon and Nikon and are instead gunning for Zeiss’s new 55mm Otus lens. It’s a serious claim. The Zeiss 55mm f/1.4 Otus lens — with its $4000 price tag.”

The lens price still hasn’t been set but the previous model was priced at $399 (here at BHphoto). I think this one will cost more like the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 ART lens ($899 at BHphoto). Have to say Sigma is doing an incredible job with their new ART lenses.
