A77II gets DxOmarked. Closes the gap vs non-SLT Sony sensor cameras (Nikon D7100 and Pentax K-3)

Share

We saw it in the past that the semitransparent mirror did come to a small cost. The A77 and the A99 didn’t manage to match the performance of the other cameras with Sony sensor (although the difference was really minimal). But this seems to have changed. Today DxOmark (Click here) posted the A77II sensor test. The new camera performs four point better than the predecessor and now matches the best APS-C camera int he class, the Sony powered Nikon D7100 and Pentax K-3.

DxO writes:

The slight gains in sensor performance over its predecessor are welcome and place the A77 II on a level with rivals. Whether it’s enough to counter as yet unannounced models from Nikon and Canon, however, only time will tell.

And only Photokina will tell us if the next Full Frame A-mount cameras will have a “flipable” mirror to squeeze out the latest tiny bit of image quality from the class leading Sony sensors!

Sony waiting for Canon’s move and evaluating the A7 cameras. Let them know what you think should be improved!

Share

Within six months Sony launched three different A7 cameras: The Sony A7 for daily family use, the Sony A7r for landscape photographers and resolution maniacs and the Sony A7s for 4K shooters and ghost hunters :)
But now let’s talk about the next generation Full Frame E-mount cameras. I got the following info from many anonymous and trusted sources:

1) Sony is waiting for Canon’s move before to define the next generation camera key specs. Trusted sources told me Sony is trying to see how Canon (and Nikon) will react on the A7-A7r-A7s launch. An example: If Canon is going to launch a 3-layer (Foveon alike) sensor than Sony will be ready to outperform them.
2) Sony is evaluating the A7 cameras by contacting some of the camera owners, talking with journalists and photographers. The next generation of F E-mount cameras will be very much be influenced by them.

And now it’s your turn! Please share your A7 improvements and features suggestions by commenting this post. I will later sum them up in one poll to see what SAR reader would like to see on future FF E-mount cameras. This would be my list:

– Improved A6000 alike autofocusing system
– Improved corner performance for wide angle lenses (for lenses like my [shoplink 23786 ebay]Voigtlander Ultron 21mm[/shoplink]).
– Make camera really fully weatherproof
– 5 axis In body stabilization
– 48 megapixel foveon sensor

I know you will call me a dreamer :)

A6000 AF test bt Thecamerastore. It’s the best bang of the buck.

Share

TheCameraStoreTV team tested the latest generation mirrorless camera autofocus performance and compared it to the best AF cameras of the world, the Nikon D4s (a $6,500 camera!). According to Chris the Sony A6000 is definitely the best bang for the buck. And along the Panasonic GH4 the performance is quite close to that of the exactly 10 times more expensive D4s!

Cannot wait to see the newer generation FF E-mount cameras having the same (and maybe even improved) af performance!

Sony FE 70-200mm gets Highly recommended at Photozone.

Image sourtesy: Photozone.de.

Our friend Klaus from Photozone is known to be a very sever reviewer. Unlike so many other reviewer sites he rarely marks lenses with the “highly recommended” badge. So it’s a nice to read that the new Sony FE 70-200mm “survived” his detailed tests and made a very favorable impression:

The Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS is, undoubtedly, a high quality with just a few weaknesses. The Sony lens is not only a looker but the mechanical quality is also truly impressive. It feels exceptionally solid and the control rings feel silky smooth. The weather sealing as well as the supplied tripod mount are also a nice bonus.

He also added that interesting note:

The A7R creates rather massive shutter vibrations that are a game spoilers when using tele-lenses – even with activated OSS. However, the A7 and A7s should be able to exploit the really high potential of the Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS. Therefore highly recommended.
