(SR5) E-mount 4K FS camcorder to be announced on September 12.

Share

Sony PRO marketing department scheduled an announcement for September 12th. This is very likely going to be the new E-mount 4K camcorder leaked a couple of days ago via Filmaker.cn (see image below). It has the same resolution, sensor size and codec as the [shoplink 28410 ebay]$30k F55 camera[/shoplink]. But the new camera will cost around $10,000 only and it’s said to be a C100 and C300 killer!

New Zeiss Loxia image samples and MTF comparison with ZM lenses.

Share

Reminder: The worldwide first Zeiss Loxia Full Frame E-mount lens preorder are now running at BHphoto:
Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 Biogon T* Lens for Sony E Mount (Click here).
Zeiss Loxia 50mm f/2 Planar T* Lens for Sony E Mount (Click here)

Cinema5D had the new Loxia lenses in their hands and posted some image samples within their short preview.

For me, the two Loxias were the last missing pieces to make the A7s a perfect “go-anywhere-with-me” camera. They are built as nicely as the camera itself (metal housing) and the full package feels very much like a much more expensive Leica rangefinder camera. The nicest touch about the lenses is their very small size (apart from their built quality) – and I think that was the priority when they were designed. Typically for Zeiss, the lenses are extremely sharp and have hardly any noticeable distortion or vignetting (which can’t be said about all 50mm photo lenses on the market – I used the Canon f/1.4 50mm on the A7s before and while the image is very nice, the lens vignettes heavily when shooting wide open).

And the Korean site Dicahub compared the lens performance of the new Loxia with those of their “original” the [shoplink 9808 ebay]Biogon T* 2/35 ZM (here on eBay)[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 9809 ebay]Planar T* 2/50 ZM (here on eBay)[/shoplink].

The day after: ILCE-QX1 actually scores high at Amazon sales ranking! New Playmemories APP released.

Share

I am among those people who highly praises Sony effort to innovate but actually wonders of gadgets like the ILCE-QX1 actually will really drive $cash$ into Sony’s pocket. Well according to the latest Amazon US sales ranking (Click here to see them) Sony is actually taking many orders of those QX1 cameras! It scores third in the mirrorless ranking beating “hot” mirrorless cameras like the Fuji X-T1 and the Sony A7 series. P.S.: Note that the ranking counts both sales and preorder numbers and changes hourly.

UPDATE: Sony also updated the Playmemories app. You can get it here on iTunes or Google Play.

I am also surprised our readers actually like the camera. See the poll results here (if you didn’t vote…vote to see them):

(SR3) More tidbits about the Full Frame 45-46 megapixel (A-mount?) camera!

Share

I got some more tidbits about a possible Sony Full Frame 45-46 Megapixel camera. I am yet not 100% sure but the camera could be released very early 2015. Don’t know if Sony will eventually show a prototype version at Photokina already. And from what I heard it’s an A-mount camera. But I would not exclude Sony will also use such a sensor on an RX…

…I am digging…be patient :)

(SR4) Three more FE lenses to be announced but not(!) released or shown at Photokina.

Share

A source told me that the 16-35mm Zeiss and the 28-135mm powerzoom Sony will be the only two FE lenses (with exception of the Loxia) released officially. Sony will also show three FE lens specs on their updated FE lens roadmap but these lenses will not be shown for “real” at Photokina and final pricing and full detailed specs will be announced months after Photokina.

One more thing: One of the rumored lenses should be the new 85mm Zeiss FE (SR4).

This is how weird the QX1 looks with huge lenses :)

Image made by Usperedi.

Of course the ILCE-QX1 isn’t meant to be used with such huge lenses…or maybe yes? Anyway, this is how the new ILCE-QX1 looks on a big Alpha lenses. And watch the video below (in Spanish) to see how the QX1 works with the FE 70-200mm lens:
