(SR1) Likely fake ILCA-AM1 medium format camera specs list surfaces on web…

Share

ILCA-AM1

An anonymous source sent me the info about a new Sony Medium Format camera named ILCA-AM1. With all the respect for the anonymous source I have a hard time believing those specs are true. Nevertheless this is a rumor site and such “weird” and “unexpected” rumors have to be posted sometimes :)

The biggest surprise is certainly the fact it has an A-mount! That’s why I don’t trust that spec list. So if you see it on the web be aware …of the risk to take it seriously :)

(SR3) More Sony medium format rumors…

Share

[shoplink 25383 ebay][/shoplink]

Rumors about a Sony medium format camera keep surfacing from time to time. The info we got recently was:

– Fixed lens RX camera
– Zeiss prime (35mm FF equivalent)
– 50 megapixel sensors (same used by new Hasselblad/PhaseOne/Pentax medium formats)
– Built-in EVF
– Smaller and cheaper(!) than any other medium format cameras out there. It’s cheaper than the new Pentax 645

And now new rumors via Photorumors shared some more details:

  • 50 megapixel medium format CMOS sensor (probably made by Sony)
  • Two versions will be sold under the Mamiya and Sony brands
  • Only the Sony version will have an EVF
  • The Mamiya model will have an OVF with OLED focus peaking
  • The lenses will also be sold under the Sony/Zeiss and Mamiya brands
  • New magnet-based lens attachment
  • The cameras will have 4 black classic control dials

Those are conflicting rumors (or maybe two different cameras?). My guess is that a fixed lens camera is more likely. Sony is struggling quite a bit to deliver the FE lenses and I cannot imagine them yet make new lenses for a new system too..

(SR2) A7000 to be announced at CES in early January. Has 256 phase detect and 125 contrast detect points?

Share
[shoplink 8454 ebay][/shoplink]

Another anonymous source claims to know more about the A7000. As usual as long as this doesn’t come from trusted sources I would keep that kind of info with a grain of salt. Nevertheless it happened in the past that such kind of anonymous rumors were correct. And I am 100% sure there is a VERY BIG Sony announcement in January. So let’s hear what the source claims to know:

I have a somewhat details about the a7000 coming at CES.
256 phase detect and 125 contrast detect points
Next 6 viewfinder
Tri Nav
Sensor will be engineered for high sensitivity
Touch screen
Zeiss lens 16-70 which you already know is weathersealed, but it will be 20% shorter, and sport a wider body.  Best in class sharpness and micro contrast.
Camera body will be $699 USD, Zeiss lens to retail for $1199

The other specs I got before also said the A7000 has full tethering capability, records 4K and has a 1/8000 shutter. If true (big “IF”) I would surprised to hear that Sony uses the NEX-6 and not the A6000 or another new viewfinder. Also the price would be terrific. Only $50 more expensive than the current A6000 price! It would certainly sell like hotcakes with that price!

Message to the A7000 anonymous sources: Thanks for sharing the info but keep in mind I can only mark your rumor with low SR2-SR3 ranking until it’s not confirmed by trusted sources. It also would be helpful if you would use some kind of nickname so that I can rank your credibility in future. If your rumors turn out to be true I can rank them higher nest time :)

First shortfilm shot with the A7s at High ISO only!

Share

Tyler Bourns posted that first creative shortfilm shot entirely at High ISO (12,000 and 40,000 ISO) with the Sony A7s. He writes:

A short film shot as a test for the new Sony A7S camera. Everything was shot using the metabones ef adapter and rokinon/canon lenses. We made it a point to go with as minimal light as possible and really push the low light capabilities of the camera. Most shots averaged between 12,000 and 40,000 ISO. Feel free to ask questions in the comments.

And SAR reader Joel sent me this:Not a rumour, but you might find this A7s video worth linking…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXNFRA1hTic. It’s interesting because it does something most other cameras couldn’t do. Also, it’s good hip hop dance. The understated filming is better than most professionally made dance video — TV-level pros don’t understand dance, and they insist on cuts and close-ups which break the flow of something that is all about the flow. Cameras like the A7s, and youtube, are starting to let us see and appreciate art that would be dumbed down for mass consumption by TV if they ever showed it.
