Copernican revolution: Next Canon DSLR to use Sony Foveon alike sensors?

Image of the Canon 6D sensor.

My friend Steve from CanonWatch got a quite strange rumor. According to one of his sources Canon will announce a new DSLR in 2015 which uses a Sony Full Frame and Foveon alike sensor! I haven’t heard any word about this from my trusted sources. But I can confirm a really completely new Sony sensor will be launched in 2015. Maybe the sensor is that good that Canon cannot keep up and has to buy the Sony sensors just like other companies often do?

I think it would be wiser for Sony to use the new generation sensor for their own new FF cameras. Although Sony could do a lot of $$$ selling sensors to Canon…

Sony patent shows Z-shift sensor mechanism!

SonyAlphaForum spotted the US patent 8866965 which discloses a mechanism to changes the flange distance between the mount and the sensor of a camera. It’s basically the Z-shift solution we wrote about last year. This could bring two advantages:

1) Adjust the flange distance depending of the lens

2) You can focus by changing the flange distance rather than focus with the lens. For example you could autofocus with manual Leica lenses.

If you love to read deeply tech details on this just click over at freepatentsonline.com/8866965.html.

Still not sure if such a camera is really coming one day…

Fotodiox mount review by Fstoppers: “Tough E-Mount is a winner”!

Share

fotodiox

The Fotodiox Tough full metal E-mount replacement is now on back order at Amazon (Click here to preorder) and BHphoto (Click here to preorder).

Fstopper tested the new Fotodiox mount and writes:

For me, the Tough E-Mount is a winner. I was easily able to fix a bothersome wiggle at home in less that five minutes. If the all-metal mount really does increase strength over Sony’s mount as Fotodiox claims, all the better; but not the reason that many are buying it for.

This is a must have item I am going to buy too :) Get it at Amazon (Click here to preorder) and BHphoto (Click here to preorder).

I took this on the A7r and Sony FE 70-200 F4. I literally just sold my entire Canon setup including a C100 and 5d mark 3 for an A7s and A7r. I’ve been looking for opportunities to test the a7r before my next paid shoot, and saw this herd of bison just off the freeway on the outskirts of Fort Worth. I couldn’t resist pulling over, and I’m glad I did! The amount of dynamic range and detail I can pull from the shadows is ridiculous, and it completely blows my Canon system out of the water in this regard.
