Apparently the head of the Sony A1 development shared the news to “some guys”: Within December Sony will release a “Major” Sony A1 firmware update. I have no details about the possible new features that are coming along. But I expect at minimum that they will add some features available on the much more affordable ZV-E1 and FX30 cameras like,focus breathing, AF assists, animal eye AF in video and so forth…

Fingers crossed this rumor is true and fingers crossed a similar update can be expected for the A7sIII too!

Canon’s weakest spot compared to Sony is the fact that they have “closed” their mount not allowing third party manufacturers to easily make lenses with full electronic support. Sony correctly has done the exact opposite and it’s also one of the main reasons why the E-mount success has been a full success.

If the rumor is correct Canon will change course and the official announcement will happen by end of 2023.

In my opinion the L-mount alliance is the perfect example of how you should do it: Open the mount for both camera and lens manufacturers.

I do believe Sony should be open to the idea to allow third party manufacturers to make E-mount cameras too. Full Frame OM Digital cameras with their nice Olympus bodies could be an option. And so some of the Chinese manufacturers…

Fujirumors reports that Sigma will also announce the 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN on October 5th. Every DC DN lens is available for E-mount so I am sure this will be coming for E-mount too. This means we can expect two new lenses next week:

• Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 E and L-mount lens
• Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN  X, E, L-mount
