The new Voigtlander Heliar 15mm III lens is an exciting little jewel that my will find its way in my bag soon :) And if you want to see how good the lens works on Sony A7 cameras check out the image samples and test posted by Mopswerk on SonyAlphaForum. His 1st impressions are:

#1 The purple edges of the old lens versions are gone
#2 Some purple fringes at the edges
#3 quite a heavy vignette / light fall off

#2 and #3 probably can be fixed in post (#1 with the old lenses could only be fixed with additional efforts). It’s still a tiny lens (the 1st images showing the lens implied a bigger size) and I like the metal finish of the Voigtlanders.
Distorion is very low.

The lens is now in Stock via [shoplink 34831 ebay]Asian sellers on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink] and shipping soon at Fotomundus Germany (Click here).

This is the difference between the Canon 50MP sensor and Sony 36MP sensor.

Size comparison by Camerasize.

Today Canon started the preorder action on the Canon 5ds which costs $3699 at BHphoto. We will have to wait a couple of months to see both the Canon 5ds and (a bit later) the “rumored” Sony 50MP cam shipping to customers. But in the meantime let’s check out how the Canon 50MP sensor compares to the Sony 36Mp sensor used by the Nikon D810 camera which is the same sensor used by the Sony A7r. Imaging Resource posted the very first comparison of that kind:

So as expected the jump from 36 to 50MP isn’t that big deal.

(SR4) A correction and a confirmation about the Sony 50MP camera.

Share

I am very busy working on a whole bunch of rumors but let’s start with an important rumor correction. The highly trusted source who shared as first the 50MP camera rumor said that he misunderstood the release timing info he got directly from Sony. The 50MP camera is not going to be announced the next few weeks. But it’s definitely ready to be for sale within 2015. He said sorry to SAR readers for the wrong timing info but there was a miscommunication between Sony and him.  The good news is that another source confirmed the camera will come this year and that indeed the Sony 50MP FF sensor has a very new design and will “easily” outperform the Canon 5ds sensor.

Another good news: Confirmed the A7rII is in production and coming damn soon!

this image shows how the length changes when rotating the adapter.

With that kind of adapter it is possible to shorten the minimum focus distance of M-mount lenses just like the more expensive [shoplink 34551 ebay]Voigtlander VM-E close focus adapter[/shoplink]. The Shoten adapter costs $199 and is for sale on [shoplink 34550 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

(SR5) Info about one of the new camcorders coming soon (HDC4300)

Image on top show the HDC2500

I have a non-Alpha rumor I want to share for those of you interested in pro video stuff. A source told me a new HDC camera will be announced soon:

The HDC4300 is a camera unit equipped with a 2/3-inch, 9.8 megapixel, 3-chip CMOS image sensor for super motion video camera systems.
In addition to standard HD and HD high frame rate imaging, it also supports 4K multi-format imaging.

And some more info via another source:

Replaces HDC-2500, shoots 4k up to 60fps & 1080p at 240fps. B4 mount 2/3in HD glass, future of 4k Sports OB

For A or E-mount followers: So fare I have yet no reliable info about a new 4K camera like a Sony A7sII or A-mount 4K cam coming at NAB.
