The Sony A7rII is the product of the year at Dpreview!

DPReview just issued the 2015 Awards. And the best product of the year is the Sony A7rII:

The Sony’s combination of image quality, video capability and autofocus performance come together to make it our camera of the year. The camera’s sheer capability: a 42MP sensor that performs well in high contrast or low light situations, built-in image stabilization, 4K video with internal recording, is hugely impressive. But add to this the ability to sensibly use other brands’ lenses and the a7R II becomes a significant camera far beyond the market for this particular high-end model: it could be the sign of things to come.

And the best zoom compact camera is the RX100m4:

The RX100 series has redefined what’s possible with a pocket camera and the Mark IV has pushed that capability even further. Sony’s latest Stacked CMOS sensor adds high speed capabilities (plus improved autofocus) and, when combined with the higher-res viewfinder, results in the best RX100 yet. Which is to say, the best pocket compact yet.

Well done Sony!

(SR3) New RX1 successor could have popup EVF and 42MP sensor.

Share

A photoshopped RX2 image …no big deal :)

A source just shared this:

The next generation of SONY RX1 or RX1R (not sure which name is correct) will have a pop up EVF same as RX100 IV. And it will use the same sensor as A7R II, the 42M BSI. Size and the shape is similar as the current one.

I guess there will be no more a “R” version as the A7rII sensor already has no anti aliasing filter. This could become a nice street camera for those who want the A7rII power in a more compact size. Just to display the difference here is the exact size comparison:

Yep I think that RX2 would make a lot of sense!

Hasselblad HV first impression review by Cameras.Reviewed.

[shoplink 41116 ebay][/shoplink]

Reviewed.com is the first site posting a first impression review of the [shoplink 41116 ebay]Hasselblad HV A-mount FF camera[/shoplink] . And they like this camera more than the previous Hasselblad Lunar and Stellar Sony camera clones:

The grip, for instance, is coated with a lovely soft-touch material that’s stamped with the iconic Hasselblad “H” to give it texture. It’s a tiny little touch, but shows the care the designers used in crafting the exterior appearance. he top plate of the camera is made from machined aluminum, which Hasselblad claims has “far more qualities” than the magnesium alloy typically used in modern DSLRs. Among those qualities: corrosion resistance, toughness, and durability. Hasselblad has also coated the body with a PVD (physical vapor deposition) coating that it claims is second only to diamond in terms of hardness.

What I didn’t know is that Hasselblad produced only 100 of those cameras. One of them is owned by David Beckham (Source: DailyMail UK). And thanks to a massive $7,999 price drop you can buy on of the other 99 cameras on [shoplink 41116 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink] and at BHphoto (Click here) for a more “affordable” $3,999 price.

Sony image sensor division becomes a separate company.

Share

Sony announced that it will split off its semiconductors operations and create a separate company. This will help them give autonomy to accelerate decision-making and make them more accountable for their profitability.

Engadget. writes:

The move means that Sony’s core businesses are now mobile, gaming, imaging (cameras), movies, music and financial services. Those businesses — especially mobile — will now have to stand on their own without sensors to prop them up.

As we know from previous reports the camera division is doing fine. And todays Sony decision will not change anything for the future.

A7rII news: The White House is using the Sony! Dpreview publishes the A7RII dynamic range analysis.

Not only we hobbyist on SAR purchased the new Sony A7rII :) The White House is using the Sony for their official pictures! Check out the EXIF on Flickr.

And here are two more A7rII news:

Dpreview published the A7rII Dynamic range test and writes:

When comparing against the Nikon D810, the differences between the two cameras are subtle. The difference between the Sony and the Canon EOS 5DS is much easier to illustrate.

ThePhoBlographer posted a High megapixel camera comparison between the Canon 5Ds, Nikon D810 and Sony A7rII:

Sony is very close to catching up with all that Canon and Nikon can do; but it’s still not totally there. In many ways, they’re far ahead of what Canon and Nikon are capable of–and those ways appeal most to the non-professional photographers. For working pros in the wedding and photojournalism world that need TTL flash and more lens selections; we’re going to need to wait.
