The testers’ feedback on the next two Sony lenses: 400-800mm G lens, while the 16mm G is a really great lens

another leaked piece of image showing the 400-800mm zoom range

I am in touch with some testers of the new Sony 400-800mm G lens. They have mixed feelings on this lens. Basically you don’t hate it nor love it. They like the focal range but the lens is a bit on the heavy side (2,5kg) and not super sharp. But this was to be expected from a G lens. I guess this is a lens made for a certain niche, and they will probably like the lens for what it is.

The feedback on the new Sony 16mm f/1.8 G is very positive. This lens is more compact, lighter, with faster autofocus and better image quality than the only competing lens on the market (available here).

Both lenses will be announced on Feb 26 while more new gear COULD be announced in late March-early April!

Great news from Tamron: By 2026 they will launch 10 new lenses per year!

Share

Tamron has announced its annual financial results (January to December 2024). In its new mid-term plan, the company revealed plans to increase the pace of new lens releases from the current 6-7 per year to 10 per year by 2026. In addition, the company will proceed with establishing a sales structure for four mounts (E mount / Z mount / RF mount / X mount).

Sony holds a stake of 14.99% Tamron (Source here). If Tamron is doing well, Sony is also doing well. Tamron had to revise the forecast upwards(!) because they expect more sales than planned:

Now I do hope some the exciting patents will make it into reality:

  • 24-110mm f/4.0
  • 25-50mm f/2.0
  • 28-100mm f/2.8
  • 28-120mm f/4.0
  • 28mm f/1.4
  • 30mm f/1.4
  • 35mm f/1.4
  • 40mm f/1.4
  • 50mm f/1.4
  • 75mm f/1.4
  • 60mm f/2.0 macro
  • 70-130mm f/2.0
  • 90mm f/2.8 macro
  • 135mm f/1.8
  • 150mm f/2.8 macro
  • 180mm f/3.5 macro
  • 200-600mm f/5.6
  • 200-800mm f/6.3
  • 350mm f/4.5
  • 200-400mm f/4.0
  • 200-800mm f/5.6
  • 13mm f/1.8 (APS-C)
  • 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (APS-C)
  • 18-500mm f/3.5-6.5 (APS-C)

The 70-130mm f/2.0 sounds very interesting to me! What do you like to get?

100% confirmed: Sony product announcement on 26 February…. and presentation of the Sony A7V shortly afterwards?

Share

Sources confirmed that Sony has scheduled a press event for February 26 at around 3-4pm London time. So far I am sure they will announce two new lenses:

But today TWO sources alerted me to another announcement from Sony coming relatively soon after the CP+ show!

According ot the sources this is some “MAJOR” stuff. I still don’t have 100% confirmation but we might get this:

Remember that Sony has already officially registered a new camera in China in December. Normally it takes up to 4 months for this registered camera to be officially announced. So my MATH says max April we should have a new camera.

I am working to get reliable info on both announcements….if you have RUMORS to SHARE use this contact box or contact me via sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Thanks!

Stay tuned!
