First 70-200mm f/2.8 FE GM lens hands-on by Matt Granger: surprisingly fast autofocus and more compact than expected

Share

We know very little about the new 70-200mm FE GM lens. Today Matt Granger posted that short hands-on video directly from the CP+ Sony booth. He says:

  1. It’s not a huge amount bigger than the f/4.0 FE.
  2. Focus seems very very very fast. But not as fast as the Nikon 70-200mm (keep in mind this is a preproduction version)
  3. It handles well and the balance is not too bad.

He also shortly tested the new 24-70m FE GM lens:

And Techradar posted this: 10 things we never knew about (Sony) lenses.

Batis 25mm lens got DxOmarked. Says it is a “champion wide lens”!

Batis

DxOmark (Click here) posted their Batis 25mm f/2.0 lens test results. As you can see it beats the F-mount Zeiss Distagon 25mm lens by a single point but it’s not as super razor sharp as the new Loxia. DxO writes:

If you need a wider field of view, the Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21 offers improved sharpness of 27 P-Mpix compared to 22 P-Mpix for the Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2. The Batis is still outstandingly sharp, however, and offers a faster maximum aperture with better light transmission, as well as marginally better results for vignetting and chromatic aberration than the Loxia 2.8/21. All in all, the Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2 is a champion wide lens and that’s why it currently sits at the top in our database.

It’s still a challenge to find a Batis lens in Stock. There are a few ready to ship on [shoplink 45273 ebay]eBay (click here)[/shoplink]. But most stores do not have them in Stock now:
Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 lens in US at Adorama, Bhphoto. In Eu at Amazon DE, WexUK. In Asia at Digitalrev.
Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2.0 lens at Adorama, Bhphoto. In EU at Amazon DE, WexUK. In Asia at Digitalrev.

Sony surpassed Canon and Nikon in the German Full Frame market!

Share

large_Fotomarkt_2-5d53fbaa48478033
German photo market: DSLR sales in RED. Mirrorless sales in Grey (Unit sold in tausend).

The German site Heise.de reports that Sony confirmed that in November and December they sold more Full Frame cameras than  both Nikon and Canon. Sony sold 34% of all FF cameras and surpassed Nikon and Canon for the first time.

Recently an interesting and extremely detailed analysis of the German market has been posted on MirrorlessRumors. In very short it shows that:
– The DSLR market is shrinking
– Lens sales are dropping too
– Mirrorless system camera market is slowly growing
– Action camera market is booming

Thanks Anton for sharing the Heise news!
