There is a “Sony event” coming the first week of February

FE_roadmap

I have been told there is a major Sony event during the first week of February. The sources have not been told by Sony if there will be new product announcements. But we can speculate the chances are good that Sony will “show something”. So let’s recap the rumors we got so far:

(SR5) A6100 coming
(SR5) New FE lenses: fast prime (85mm f/1.4?), telephoto lens and probably fast zooms (GM).
(SR5) Zeiss will announce the Batis 18mm
(SR4) Another “mirrorless” camera (not clear if they mean a classic A-mount or a sort of A9 E-mount camera or whatever)
(SR4) HX400 successor

But there is still room for some more camera/lens surprise as I got word this Sony event is quite….BIG :)

The A6100 is coming: A short explanation of the double delay story.

The A6100 is finally being released but I want to give you a short insight about why the A6000 successor rumor was so difficult to track and be reliable:

Yesterday a trusted source told us Sony would release a RX1RII press release soon. As you see today he was right on this. The same source confirmed days ago the A6100 is coming soon. That is usually an example of how sources can be defined as reliable. But this is doesn’t mean their rumors become truth every time. Because we still deal with pre-release information. And Sony can change this for at any time for multiple reason. Two examples:

  1. Back in September another trusted source told us the Sony Europe stores would close overnight (article here). He also told us that Sony would release the A6xxx within one month. As we saw he was correct on the information about the online stores, they were indeed closed (article here). But Sony then decided again to postpone the A6xxx launch.
  2. Back in May three trusted sources(!) told me the A6000 successor would be released sometimes in Spring. But Sony delayed the launch. But thanks to wikileaks we know the original sources information was correct as indeed Sony had that camera on their product launch roadmap

This is why you always have to be aware that because we deal with pre-release information things can sometimes change in the meantime.

And now something else: The last 16 months I have been particularly busy with my personal life (became father and had some other projects to do). I told you starting from February 2016 I would finally have more time to work on more rumors and this is already happening in those days.

Stay tuned on SAR because we have more rumors coming the next hours and days ;)

Sony confirms the RX1rII will ship again from February 19!

RX1rII

Sony Japan issued an official press text to confirm that the RX1RII shipment will resume on February 19!
It’s also good to know that our source gave use that information in advance yesterday. And for you it will be even more exciting to hear that the same source confirmed the A6100 is coming ;)

RX1RII store search link: [shopcountry 44135]

The reason for the delay has not been mentioned by Sony but we can assume that the source who gave us the press information yesterday shared also the correct cause of the delay:

Apparently issue with new rx1 camera was caused by light leak when shooting under harsh direct light. Light was getting inside the camera only with evf up. Cameras that were sold with that issue will be replaced, new shipment of cameras doesn’t have that problem anymore. There should be official announcement tomorrow, dealers were already asked to trace back customers that bought rx1rm2
Good news is that they traced the problem themselves and didn’t follow Nikon “lets hope that no one will find out” path ?

Sony fixed the RX1rII issue! Official press text to be released soon (maybe tomorrow).

RX1rII

A trusted source sent me this regarding the RX1RII production stop:

Apparently issue with new rx1 camera was caused by light leak when shooting under harsh direct light. Light was getting inside the camera only with evf up. Cameras that were sold with that issue will be replaced, new shipment of cameras doesn’t have that problem anymore. There should be official announcement tomorrow, dealers were already asked to trace back customers that bought rx1rm2
Good news is that they traced the problem themselves and didn’t follow Nikon “lets hope that no one will find out” path ;-)

(SR5) This is the logo of the new Sony “G-Master” lens line! First lens is the 24-70mm f/2.8.

G-master

Yes! We have the final proof Sony is about to launch a new f/2.8 zoom series! And we also found the officially Sony trademarked logo of this new lens series called “G Master”.
Sony will soon (at CP+?) announce the first of these lenses, the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM. The document in our hands doesn’t unveil any other details of the lens but this should be a Full Frame E-mount lens. It’s yet unclear how Sony will differentiate this lens line from [shoplink 44108 ebay]current Zeiss zooms[/shoplink] or [shoplink 44109 ebay]Sony A-mount f/2.8 zooms[/shoplink]. Maybe those are powerzooms or “cine-friendly” lenses like the Zeiss Master series?

To recap Sony is “rumored” to launch many new products before or at the Cp+ show in February. These are some of the stuff that could be announced soon:
New A6100
New HX400 successor
Another new mirrorless (unclear what it is or if that is the A99 successor…)
New GM lens line (24-70mm f/2.8)
New FE roadmap with 85mm fast prime and at least a telephoto lens
Zeiss will launch the 18mm Batis

Stay tuned on SAR, its’ going to be very exciting here on SAR the coming days ;)
