(SR3) First A7rIII rumors: 70/80 Megapixel and improved IBIS

Share

I got first hints about the next A7rII successor. The source said that Sony Japan managers said the

a7Riii the new sensor will be between 70 – 80 Megapixels. They are working on improved IBIS as well. Although officially the new lenses per the 24-70 F2.8 GM and the others have been tested for QC at 60+ Megapixels and 6K+ Video they achieve even better results than that.

Well sounds likely this could be the A7rIII (or A9)!

24-70mm GM reviews by RoseCharles and Fred Miranda.

24-70mm

We have two new 24-70mm GM tests:

Fredmiranda is comparing the zoom with other FE lenses in the range. He writes:

So far, I’m quite impressed. At 24mm, center and mid-field is quite strong wide-open. Yes, extreme corners improve at f/4 and are optimal at f/5.6. The zoom performs better from 24-35mm wide open. At 50mm there is a slight drop in resolution. In my opinion, the 70mm FL looks great. It’s very good at f/4 with a sweet spot at f/5.6. (Perhaps f/6.3). That’s is surprising as I thought it would not perform this strong at 70mm.

RoseAndCharles tested the lens and this is his Pros and Cons list:

Pros

  • Excellent build quality with gaskets and weather sealing
  • Silent, accurate and fast autofocus
  • Quite sharp even wide open at F2.8
  • Very sharp when stopped down a little
  • Smooth background blur with round bokeh balls out to the corners
  • Good colors and rendering

Cons

  • Very expensive at $2200
  • Somewhat heavy and large
  • Some vignetting at wider apertures (correctable)
  • Can have chromatic aberration near edge of frame (correctable)
  • Can flare strongly in some situations

Nikon D5 vs Sony a7R II: ISO 3 MILLION 4K video quality test!

Nikon D5 vs Sony a7R II: ISO 3 MILLION 4K video quality test!

Tony Northup made a carzy 3 Million ISO comparison between the Sony A7rII and Nikon D5. He writes:

Nikon’s first 4K video camera, and it offers up to ISO 3,276,800–which is *7* stops beyond what the Sony a7R II offers. It’s not the low-light champ you’d hope, though. We tested the a7R II in full-frame mode, even though it offers 1 stop better quality in Super 35 mode. We wanted to start testing with the worst case scenario for the Sony… but since it won even while handicapped, I don’t see the need to continue testing.
The a7S offers another stop beyond that, so it would be about 2 stops better than the D5. The a7S II offers still another stop improvement, so it whould be about 3 stops cleaner than the D5.

The big comparison: Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21 vs Otus 1.4/28 vs Sigma Art 20/1.4 at 3Dkraft

Share

3Dkraft (Click here) posted a detailed comparison between the Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21 vs Otus 1.4/28 vs Sigma Art 20/1.4 bs Zeiss 16-35mm FE vs Color Scopar 21/4 vs Ultron 21./1.8. And he writes:

The Zeiss Loxia 2.8/21 is propably the best compromise between size, weight, low light capability and optical performance. It is a perfect fit for the A7-series, has excellent edge and border performance right from open aperture, rich colors and contrast, excellent back and stray light resistance due its perfect coating and it has a weather sealing. Some users critisize that there is only a small part of the barrel that you can grab when you mount it to the camera body. In the near range, it also provides nice options to play with a shallow depth of field. This little gem seems to be worth every cent you pay for it, if you like the 21mm viewing angle.
