Image on top shows the current 50mm f/1.4 A-mount ART lens

  • 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art
  • 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | Art

New 100mm STF lens tests by Dpreview, Imaging Resource

Share

Imaging Resource posted a very detailed analysis of the new Sony 100mm f/2.8 STF G Master lens and concludes:

The Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 STF G has a physical aperture of f/2.8, but exposes like an f/5.6. And when it comes to DOF, it shoots like an f/4, but produces some of the most amazing, creamy bokeh we’ve ever seen. Given it’s price, it’s a somewhat special-purpose lens, but oh man; if you want amazing bokeh, this is the way to get it!

DPreview also tested the 100mm STF and writes:

Similar STF lenses tend to be manual focus or contrast detect-only, since peripheral light rays – the very ones the filter is designed to block out – are necessary for traditional phase-detect sensors to function. However, since (at least Sony’s) on-sensor PDAF sensors can still use more central light rays for focusing, focusing does still work, remarkably well in fact with the a7R II, even indoors, wide open.

Sebimagery posted a Sony FE 85mm 1.8 First look:

While it’s been deemed the “Budget 85” for Sony’s e-mount the performance is quite fantastic.  For half the price of the Batis, this thing will be a solid performer.  The advantage over the Batis is the customizable button on the side of the lens like all the G Master lenses have.

PcMag also tested the 85mm FE:

The FE 85mm F1.8 certainly wins out on price, coming in at about half that of the Zeiss Batis 1.8/85. Images look quite crisp, autofocus is speedy, and the lens maintains the same dust- and moisture-resistant design as other FE lenses.

German readers can also check out the 100mm review by Photoscala.

New Sony FE lens preorders:
85mm f/1.8 FE at Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama. PhotoPorstNeuwied.
100mm f/2.8 STF FE at Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama. PhotoPorstNeuwied.
HVL-F45RM Wireless Radio Flash at BHphoto, Adorama. PhotoPorstNeuwied.

(SR5) Sony’s new High End E-mount camera has “High Speed, High ISO, High FPS and not so high Megapixels”

Share

I just got this from a source who shared three correct rumors in the past:

“a9 is not a high megapixel camera.
The number of pixels is saved, it will become a camera with high speed AF, high-speed continuous shooting, high ISO sensitivity.”

Another source also told me that Sony plans to release different version of that new camera line. So maybe there will be a High megapixel version too sometimes later.

I can also confirm the camera has dual card slot…very likekly XQD and not SD. Announcement time is still unconfirmed but my guts tell me it could be announced within 1-2 months (I repeat, that’s not a rumor but just a feeling).

While the “A9” name is yet not confirmed all we know is that the camera is placed above the current A7 line. We posted the first SR5 ranked rumor back in April 2016. But because of the Kumamoto earthquake Sony delayed the camera launch. Stay tuned on SAR and join the special Sony A9 group on Facebook (Click here) for more discussions.

XQD cards on Amazon (expensive but reliable and fast):

More details about the new Sony CMOS Global Shutter sensor and the Sony market expectations

Share

Sony posted the full details fo the new CMOS Globla Shutter sensor at sony-semicon.co.jp.

ResearchinChina posted an article about the global sensor market and the forecast for 2017:

It is expected that, in 2017, the CIS market will grow 4.0%, Sony will see a growth rate of at least 10%, and most others will continue to suffer losses. In spite of being not much expected, the mobile phone market is still the most important market and Sony still monopolizes the high-end mobile phone market.

Thanks Barry for that!
