(SR4) Now 75% chance ot get the A7III on Monday. And some hints about two new FE primes…

Share

Tonight we received an “indirect” evidence that Sony is indeed going to launch the new A7III. The chances to get the A7III on Monday afternoon at the Las Vegas presentation are now at 75%.

One more thing:
A source also heard about two fast primes in development. But he got no confirmation if Sony will actually talk about those on Monday. One of the primes would be the 135mm FE.

Happy Birthday! E-mount now 8 years old and this was the first “prototype”

Share

E-mount is now 8 years old and the image above shows the first prototype shown on February 24th 2010 by Sony at the CP+ show. Sony wrote:

Concept model of an ultra-compact interchangeable lens digital camera system that packs the quality of a DSLR camera in an extraordinarily small body, along with interchangeable lenses

Here is a picture of the actual real prototype shown at CP+

you remember this Sony? It was the first E-mount prototype :)

Increasing chance that we might get a new Sony A7III on February 26

Share

A7III rendering created by Valley Films

I am still not 100% sure about WHAT will be announced: But the chances are increasing that we will get a new A7III camera on February 26. This because we learned that many people got invited at big events in Las Vegas, London and Asia. I doubt they would do that for a new A6000mkII or A5300.
And you better hope that these A7III specs shared by a new source are correct. Because if he is than I can share the correct A7sIII specs too (Spoiler: The camera is not going to be unveiled at the CP+).

So let’s recap what we know so far:

99% reliable rumors:
– Sony announcement on February 26 (Las Vegas time)
– New “entry-mid” level camera will be announced

60% reliable rumor:
The “entry-mid” level camera is the A7III

Tamron says the 28-75mm FE is aimed to match the 24-70mm GM quality. And hints at possible wide angle FE zoom!

Share

The image on top shows you the first real world image of the new 28-75mm f/2.8 FE lens. On the left you see their current 24-70mm f/2.8 for Canon. Tamron Hong Kong also unveiled some more interesting tidbits on their facebook page:

1. They aim to compete with 2470GM with this lens
2. They aimed to priced lower or near the 2470z
3. They would ship it as early as end of april, no later than May. (Might varied on region, i read some people claimed late may.
4. Brand new design, not directly from old 2875 2.8 from EF/Nikon F
5. This lens should designed with the hope to feed the a7r2/3 sensor, so it might mean it’s able to resolve 40M+ pixel sensors
6. This is not for certain: when asked about other zoom lens from Tamron, like “1530 2.8 is a great zoom lens, but i need an adapter”, they replied “Commiing soon….” or “Wait for further news”. I would like to gently ask you whether you have news on Tamron Native FE Lens rumors?

Thanks to the reader who sent me this!
