RUMOR: Yes Sony will announce new E-mount camera around the CP+ show. Is the A7IV finally going to be announced?

Share

We now heard from two reliable sources that Sony will definitely announce new E-mount gear “around” the CP+ show.  On of the sources said there will be at least a new camera and a new handle with Bluetooth “VCT”.

I got NO confirmation yet about WHAT camera we should expect but I bet high on the new Sony A7 IV. After all the A7III was announced at the CP+ show two years ago.

I have no info on lenses yet but there is surely a good chance we might get 1-2 new lenses too. Like I reported days ago Sony plans to announce a total of SIX new E-mount lenses in 2020.

Now let’s guess the possible A7IV specs:
It safe to think the A7IV will be an evolution and not a revolution. Something like the A7rIV with a 24MP sensor. I would appreciate Sony to surprises us and at least offer us not the same A7III sensor but a completely new version of it.
For the rest I expect the A7IV to have the same EVF, same AF system and same body design of the A7rIV.

And when the A7sIII?
After a very long waiting I am now confident the A7sIII is coming at the NABshow. The only reliable rumor I got said it would have 4k120p and a vent on the back to cool down the sensor.

SUMMARY:

  • 6 new E-mount lenses will be announced in 2020 (1 APS-C, some lenses are update of current lenses, many tele lenses and on new wide angle GM lens)
  • 1 new camera will be announced around the CP+ show
  • 1 new grip will be announced around the CP+ show
  • Many more announcement expected from Sigma, Tamron, Tokina (85mm f/1.8 FE)…stay tuned on SAR for those rumors :)

We already had an English SonyAlphaForum. But we now also launched a native German Forum at sonyalphaforum.de. The new community offers a German language platform for everyone interested in Sony’s E-Mount system, both full format (e.g. Sony A9 and Sony A7 series) and APS-C (with Sony A6000, A6500 and successors). Over the last weeks an active community has developed with almost 1,000 members, still gaining new members.

A small revolution might just have happened: Canon says they will only make new EF lenses if there is demand for it…from now it’s RF lenses for mirrorless only!

Share

Canon is now following the steps of Sony and “virtually” gave up on their EF lens development. Canon manager Richard Shepherd old at Digitalcameraworld:

“To date we’ve launched ten critically acclaimed RF lenses, and as it’s a new system we plan to continue this, launching more RF lenses while still fully supporting the EF lens system. And of course, should the market demand it, we are ready to create new EF lenses. But for now, our focus is on RF.”

So, de facto Canon is now using all their resources to develop RF lenses only. Don’t think they will ever go back on EF lens development…just like Sony dind’t make any A-mount lens (and camera) for a very long time now.

What I find odd is to read a statement like this the days after the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III announcement. A nice way to kill some sales :)

Luminar 4.1 released: Adds a new Atmospheric Haze for AI Sky Replacement

Share

Skylum has released a new free Luminar 4.1 update with over 50 bug fixes and new features. Reminder: There is still a holiday Deal on the new Luminar 4 software (Click here).

What’s new:

NEW Atmospheric Haze for AI Sky Replacement.
Just open the Advanced Settings for the AI Sky Replacement tool to get the most realistic sky replacement. The new Atmospheric Haze slider is perfect for adjusting the light balance for the replaced sky and the image foreground. Use this new slider along with Sky Temperature and Sky Exposure for perfectly balanced images. We recommend atmospheric haze when your sky replacement is oversaturated, or it’s brightness doesn’t match the foreground.

NEW Erase Tool Technology.
It’s never been easier to remove distracting or unnecessary objects from your photos. The Erase Tool uses all-new technology for precise object removal. It works exceptionally well on even complicated backgrounds and those with complex gradients and especially for sensor dust spots on a photo. Removing unwanted pixels is easier than ever… if something bothers you in your photos, get rid of it!

Improved performance and stability.
Thanks to the Luminar users who helped us fine-tune performance. We’ve fixed 53 bugs that could lead to crashes or unexpected results. We’ve also made 17 improvements to memory management, user experience (UX), and stability to make Luminar even better.

Portrait Enhancer Tool.
You can now use the Portrait Enhancer tool on even more images, including ones with smaller faces like group or environmental portraits. Smaller faces can now be adjusted with the same great tools you love for traditional portraits. If an image has no faces (or they are too small to detect), the Portrait Enhancer tool will be disabled.

Adjustments Amount Slider.
Ever need to back off an adjustment a little bit? The Adjustments Amount slider is the perfect option to blend your tools with the original image. Rather than have to re-edit several tools, just switch over to the Layers tool and dial back the Adjustments Amount slider. You’ll find this control for all image and adjustment layers but can still use traditional Opacity controls for Image layers as well. This slider works for all tools except transform options like Lens Correction, Slim Face, and Enlarge eyes, which remain unaffected.
