Engadget: “Canon and Nikon, Panasonic are simply getting lapped by Sony in the mirrorless race”

Engadget has tested the S1R and writes:

Is the S1R worth $3,700? If you had asked me this even a month or two ago, I would have said yes. However, Sony’s incredible new 61-megapixel A7R IV has put me in a tight spot here, based on the brief look we had. For $200 less, you get a lot more, including much higher resolution, phase-detect autofocus with incredible AI powered eye detection, and video features on par with the S1R.

Sony simply hasn’t given Panasonic an inch in performance, and has a proven track record with three previous A7R models. It’s a shame, because the S1R is a pretty incredible camera, but like Canon and Nikon, Panasonic is simply getting lapped by Sony in the mirrorless race.

Shawn Steiner shot Landscapes and Travel with the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Lens:

This lens is quite good. Considering its price point and feature set it is an easy recommendation to make. Images are sharp, the lens the lightweight and easy on the shoulder, and operation is fast and smooth. In terms of bang for buck, it is practically unmatched. If you have been wanting a wide-angle lens for your full-frame E-mount camera the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 may just check all the right boxes.

(SR4) Two more Sony cameras to be announcement within August/September

two Sony cameras still have to be announced soon (via Nokishita)

Sony’s new strategy is to announce a single product every 1-2 weeks. in June we got the 600mm and 200-600m lenses. Two weeks ago we got the 35mm f/1.8 FE. Last week the A7rVII and this week the RX100VII. And we know there is more to come!

Within the next weeks we shall see two more Sony camera announcements. This because Sony had registered two camera codes of yet to be announced cameras. Both cameras will not be High End E-mount cameras. As they don’t have the 5GHZ Wifi as the A7rIV does. I am pretty sure both the A9II and A7sIII would have fast Wifi. Told you many times before that the A9II and A7sIII are scheduled for a fall announcement at best.

What to expect?
I heard from one source that one of the new cameras should be the RX10V. If the sources is right we have one more entry-level camera to get. Could be a new APS-C E-mount camera or another Cybershot/RX model.

I have no info about new lens announcements so far…
