E 70-350mm F4.5-6.3 G OSS at Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama , FocusCamera. In EU at Calumet DE, Park UK, WexUK.

While I believe the new 70-350mm zoom is a great choice the new 16-55mm purchase  is a bit harder to justify because of a simple reason….the high price! Of course the tariff battle between USA and China isn’t helping here :(

That  said the 16-55mm is a good news for the following reasons:

  1. It’s a clear statement from Sony that  the APS-C system is well alive and will be supported in the years to come
  2. It’s the first f/2.8 zoom. Hopefully a 55-150mm  f/2.8 zoom will follow as next :)
  3. Image samples posted on Sony.net and MTF graph show impressive IQ. Looks more like  a GM lens than G.

(SR5) First leaked image of the new Sony A9II flagship camera!

Share

This is the first leaked image of the new Sony A9II !!! The camera will be announced in October. UPDATE. It will NOT be displayed at the PhotoPlus show but on a separate event because Sony decided to NOT be present at the show this year.

I got three images of the new Sony A9II and I am now allowed to post this one only :) And yes:

The new Sony A9II looks exactly like the new Sony A7rIV but with the additional dial on the left.

This is not a photoshopped image and indeed there will be only one minor change to prove you this is the real deal:

– Gone is the “Focus mode dial lock release button” of the previous Sony A9

Now before you rant about the disappointment of this news :) I have been assured that all the WOW elements are INSIDE the camera. The sensor should be the most advanced one on the market yet! Hope to get some info about this soon :)

The only yet NON-confirmed info I got is that it uses a new generation 36MP sensor. But I repeat this is NOT confirmed yet!

Sony A9II rumor recap:
– The camera will be announced in October and displayed at the PhotoPlus show in NYC (October  23-25)
– The camera has the same A7rIV body with additional dial on the left.
– The big improvements are INSIDE the camera with a very new generation Sony sensor and improved autofocus
– Unconfirmed: The sensor could have 36MP resolution

Stay tuned on SAR!

(SR5) Spread the info: Sony A9II release in OCTOBER

Share

UPDATE. It will NOT be displayed at the PhotoPlus show but on a separate event!

There seems to be a lot of bloggers out there that still didn’t understand when the A9II will be released and don’t get how our rumor ranking works. So here the recap of this weeks rumor:

1) On September 3th I posted this SR3 ranked rumor about the A9II possibly announced in 1-2 weeks. “SR3” means it’s unconfirmed and certainly NOT reliable as I wrote within the text!!!

2) 15 hours after I got reliable info saying the camera will be released in October. The meeting happening in 1-2 weeks is just a “closed door”event with Olympic photographers to show them the A9II. But  I repeat the PUBLIC announcement is in October.

Here is the Rumor Ranking:

SR= Sony Rumor
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

I got the new A7rIV and this what it feels like…

Share

I will not go into the technical specs and will share the first impressions feelings I had when I unboxed the A7rIV the very first day.

Note:  I owned all A7r cameras so far. This is the difference between my  “Old” A7rIII and A7rIV:

What’s good:
1) The first  things I noticed is the tactile feeling. Buttons feel better, the camera body looks like it’s better built too.
2) Opening the side doors (battery and connection) feels WAY more solid than before. They are no more flimsy and they feel pleasantly “dumped” probably because of the extra weathersealing. This is probably the best first impression point I had
3) Yes my mid sized hand fits much better on t he larger grip. Also my fingers are no more squeezed between the lens and the grip.
4) EVF is great but somehow I feel I still need  and even bigger resolution for my manual focus shooting. The EVF jump form the A7rII to A7rIII felt bigger  than the one from the A7rIII to the A7rIV.

What’s not so good:
1) That damn screen should really have gotten more resolution and grown up touchscreen functions
2) That new top rear dial position look off the place, doesn’t feel good to rotate and it also not as easy to rotate as it was before.
3) The grip still looks like as it was glued afterwards on the body. A more harmonic design would be appreciated on the next A7rV :)

Will try to post some images samples soon too!
