Sigma A 35 mm f/1.2 DG DN review at Lenstip: “excellent sharpness across the frame”

Lenstip tested the new Sigma A 35 mm f/1.2 DG DN lens:

Sigma has entered the full frame mirrorless optics segment in a very decisive manner. Not only they presented a lens with unique parameters but they also took care of image quality, so the lens is able to offer you excellent shots across the frame. It is a really huge achievement because edges of the frame were notoriously difficult for even expensive, mirrorless constructions.

Still there is a price to be paid for that performance. Despite significant physical dimensions and a hefty weight you have to make do with huge vignetting and weak distortion correction. Perhaps the decision not to correct that aberration was crucial in order to ensure high resolution across the frame but, in our opinion, the slip-up with flares was avoidable; as it is, you can catch ghosting even if the source of bright light is far away from the frame corner. It’s a pity the constructors didn’t try harder.

Lately Sigma have got us used to outstanding constructions without any flaws. Does it mean we are entitled to criticize the 1.2/35 model? Not at all – at least as long as somebody presents a better lens with the same parameters. So far, the Sigma remains matchless and we should enjoy its unique parameters and quite good performance.

Personal note: Was an idiot in realizing late A7sIII photos were faked

Share

Just to be clear: Yesterday I made a big shit in realizing to late that the pictures I got from unkown sources were faked A7sIII images. With the exception of one photo from another source that I don’t know if it’s legit :(

Feeling bad for this and it was incompetent from my side. So deep apologies for that.

On a positive note: I know some of you think the A7sIII might never come. But Sony assured multiple times the camera is coming and that it will “exceed expectations”. And after yesterdays big fail from my side a highly trusted source told me to not worry, the A7sIII is coming during the first half of 2020. And that source I definitely trust as he was right many times.

Again, sorry for yesterday, I was a blinded IDIOT :(

Sony CES press conference on January 6 at 5:00 pm PST time

Share

Sony will have a CES press conference on January 6 at 5:00 pm PST time. I do not expect any new Alpha gear on that event. But you never now…and I will embed the video livestream just to be sure we don’t miss anything.

My guess is that we will see a new A7IV camera at the CP+ show in Japan. And probably the A7sIII at NABshow in April.

Sorry folks: Supposedly Sony A7sIII image doens’t tell us anything at all :(

Share

UPDATE: I edited this post and corrected the mistake I made after your suggestion. Feeling an IDIOT for having posted wrongly flipped images :(

Here is the photo I got of a Sony covered camera used just recently by a world known youtuber. The youtuber told him he is testing a new model but I don’t know if:

1) that’s true at all
2) what model this might be

So take this as a “non useful” image. We need more to see what it really is:

SPECS SPECULATION:

This next part is purely speculative: Back in July I posted the full IMX521 sensor specs. This is a 15MP sensor with Quad Array structure. It might be good for the A7sIII but this is purely speculative as of now! Here is the full spec sheet:

But like I said, the new A7sIII sensor might be completely different and use a Higher Resolution (24MP?) sensor…

Additional note: The previously posted A7sIII images were fakes and I removed them after you made me notice them. Thanks and I feel bad for this :(
