New Sigma patent for the 28-70mm f/2.0 zoom, 400mm f/2.8 and other new fast primes

A year ago Sigma CEO Yamaki said they are now thinking about making “unique” lenses. Well the latest published patents certainly go into this direction! Asobinet just found the patents for those optical designs:

  • 28-70mm f/2.0 zoom lens for Full Frame Mirrorless cameras (same specs of the epic Canon 28-70mm f/2.0 RF).
  • 400mm f/2.8 (finally a cheaper alternative of the $12,000 Sony 400mm GM)
  • 135mm f/1.8 (We already have the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 FE lens. But this is an “older” lens designed for DSLR. This is a new design adapted for mirrorless!)
  • 12mm f/1.4 (an even wider version of the current 14mm f/1.4 FE)
  • 10mm f/1.4 APS-C lens

Reminder: Trusted sources told me Sigma has a press event in very early February! Let’s see what’s coming…
