Today Canon announced FIFTEEN!!! new cameras+lenses (see them all at BH). The most important product is the new EOS-R5 8K camera which is priced at $3899 (full spec list at BH). This camera is a sort of hybrid between the Sony As7 and A7r line. The soon to be announced A7sIII will be more purely video focused and likely not have that high resolution nor 8K30p (as professional 4K quality is the main goal of that cam).
Sony vs EOS-R5 interesting facts:
- 20min 8K recording but files are huge. On a $700 1 TB card you record max 51min
- Canon has 8stop stabilization vs the Sony 5 stop stabilization
- Interesting, it uses the same EVF resolution of the Sony A7rIV….that EVF is actually made by Sony…which makes me think Canon bought it from Sony :)
I wonder if Sony has to somehow answer to this or if the A7rIV and future A7sIII will be enough…

The big unanswered question:
The one caveat I have with Canon is this: Yes, on paper the specs are amazing but will it deliver in reality? We know that so far Canon sensors are really way behind Sony. So did they pull the white rabbit out of the hat or will the Image Quality still be inferior to the Sony?
None of the reviewers talked about this aspects and my feeling is that Canon will NOT have done that miracle…
