Had a small break this week: But plenty of Sony and Sigma rumors coming soon…with announcements in 3-4 weeks!

Dear SAR reader, I had a short break this week because I am hiking in the Alps with my family and friends. But this will be my last short break, because I have received several confirmations that Sony will make an announcement in the second half of August and Sigma in early September.
There is also something completely different that I will talk about soon: The possibility of a big shake-up in the mirrorless world. This is “news” from the usual companies, and I will post a youtube video about it on my channel next week (subscribe!). Feel free to guess in the comments what you think might happen ;)

CONFIRMED: New Sony product announcement in August! This is what will be announced…

Back in May I told you that Sony delayed all the announcement roadmap by up to 2 months. So the 85mm f/1.4 GM II that was scheduled for a late June announcement would come later. I now got 100% solid confirmation that Sony plan an announcement by end of August! I don’t have yet 100% certainty on the products to be announced but I believe:

  • 99% chance we are getting the Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM II
  • 80% chance we might be getting the Sony FX9 successor
  • 20% chance we are getting the 24-70mm f/2.0 GM

The 24-70mm f/2.0 GM is more likely to be announced in September and the first Alpha Full Frame camera should be coming in September/October.

One more thing: TWO trusted sources now confirmed there is no Sony A7V coming in late 2024.

Next set of WILD Sony A7V specs

I have already told you that my reliable sources seem to indicate that the A7V will be on the market only in 2025. They have not yet shared any possible specifications. All I am getting are specifications from other new or anonymous sources. Here I share one of them, but of course keep in mind that it could be completely wrong. That said, let me know if a camera like this might be of interest to you:

  • Alpha 7 Mark V is a 36 megapixels camera with a comparatively slight low-pass filter. The actual resolution of the photos is significantly higher than the Alpha 7 Mark VI.
  • It features Generation II suite of BIONZ XR Processor x AI Processing Unit which supported fast 120fps AE/AF, dynamic attitude- and rate-based object tracking on a slow BSI sensor.
  • The screen performance is great, with drastically improved brightness, contrast, and color gamut.
  • But the 10fps burst shooting is a little behind all the competition.
  • The excessive yet insufficient UHD8K resolution causes it to record only oversampled 4K video. And full-frame 4K/60p video requires a 1.2x crop.

Like I told you, not an info from my trusted sources and I am highly skeptical about those specs…

HOT: Sigma will soon announce a new “intriguing” FF zoom!

Last week I told you that Tamron will soon announce another big zoom lens. Well, two trusted sources have just told me that Sigma will also soon announce a big zoom lens!I have been told that unlike the recent Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art lens this is more “intriguing” for the masses as it’s NOT a niche lens but an affordable lens that could be interesting for most of our readers.

Will have details soon!

One of my sources claims the Sony A7V is NOT coming by end of 2024. It will be announced in 2025 only!

One of my trusted sources is sure that Sony will not announce a new Sony A7V this year. According to him, the A7IV will definitely arrive in 2025.

I have yet to double and triple check this rumor, but this source has been right many times in the past, so I am inclined to believe him. Unless he is wrong this time and unless Sony decides to change the roadmap at the last minute, I think we should not expect to have the A7V this year.

Probably Sony thinks the now nearly three old A7IV still holds up well against the new Nikon Z6III and the two year old Canon R6II. A spec comparison can be found on that BHphoto page:

We know from reliable stats that the A7IV still sells well in Japan. And also the Amazon US mirrorless ranking, the Amazon DE mirrorless ranking and the Amazon UK mirrorless ranking always show the A7IV among the top sellers. So I guess Sony is right to wait for a more mature timing. Moreover Canon is rumored to announce a new R6III in late 2024 and Sony might prefer to see what this camera will look like.

I hope the source can soon come back with some more precise release time info and possibly even some specs. In the mean time let me know in the comment system what you expect from the A7V. And this is the poll:

Select the three most important improvements you hope to get on the new Sony A7V:
