Confirmed: Sony A1II and a new 28-70mm f/2.0 zoom will be announced on November 19

At last! I can confirm with 100% certainty that Sony will be announcing the new Sony A1II flagship camera and a new Sony 28-70mm f/2.0 GM zoom on November 19th at 2pm London time!

As for the specs of the Sony A1II, I’m still working on final confirmation so please be aware that I’m not 100% sure of the following details yet:

Likely (but still not 100% confirmed) Sony A1II specs:

  • 50MP Full-Frame Exmor RS BSI CMOS Sensor (same of the Sony A1)
  • Sony A9III body
  • New AI chip
  • faster frame rate and faster autofocus
  • More expensive than the current Sony A1
  • New CFexpress Type A with 4.0 standard (doubles the speed)
  • C2PA support for content authentication.
  • Availability in early 2025 only

Sony’s first f/2.0 zoom lens:

  • Sony 28-70mm f/2.0 Full Frame GM lens will be more compact than the Canon 28-70mm lens
  • Price around $3,000

WILD rumors and probably FALSE:

  • Got some wild totally unconfirmed rumors on a possible new wildlife lens (maybe an update of the 100-400mm GM).
  • 99% bullshit rumor: New RX1rIII fixed lens 3000 dollar camera (I am near certain it’s BS)

Quick thoughts on the new gear

My take on the Sony A1II:

It will be hard to swallow the fact that this could be a $7,500-$8000 camera. But I’m told that Sony has improved every aspect of the camera and that the sum of the improvements and new features will make it a worthwhile upgrade. So let’s wait until I get the full detailed spec list before to draw conclusions.

My take on the Sony 28-70mm f/2.0:

My originally rumor from 10 months ago said this could be a 24-70mm f/2.0. But Sony is going for the 28-70mm probably to keep the size as small as possible. What do you think is this a god trade off for you?

Big Live stream tomorrow (October 29) to talk about the new Sony gear coming on November 19

Well folks, I’m very busy these days, but I’ve taken a day off tomorrow, October 29, to discuss the rumors about the Sony announcement on November 19. There will be a livestream at 3pm for this (see video on top). I know you guys hate these teasers, but I have to be online to share and discuss these types of important rumors. What can you expect from me tomorrow?

This is going to be a BIG Sony announcement!

The past three days I got many messages from new sources and some from trusted sources via this contact box or at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. First of all I want thank you all for the help!

A couple of messages to all sources:

New Sony Full Frame Alpha camera will be announced on November 19!

According to several trusted sources, Sony will unveil at least one new full-frame Alpha camera on November 19 (or November 20, depending on the time zone). The camera will be unveiled at the New York Creative Space event on November 20 and 21. There might be also a lens but this hasn’t been confirmed yet.

What can we hope to get? The most likely scenario si that we will get the either the Sony A1 or the Sony A7IV successor. And maybe the long time rumored 24-70mm f/2.0 GM. But I am always open for a surprise like a successor of this RX1rII model :)

HOT! New Sony Alpha camera announcement is happening in late November!

Trusted sources told me that Sony has a new product launch event planned for the end of November. We are nearly certainly getting a new Full Frame E-mount camera and possibly also a new lens! The source did NOT give any details about what exactly will be announced.

But based on previous rumors, I know that these three products will likely be announced within the next 6-7 months:

What’s NOT likely to be announced:

My personal speculation is that we could get the Sony A1II and maybe the 24-70mm f/2.0 GM. But like I said, I don’t have any confirmation yet about the specific product names. And because we don’t know what’s coming, you can dream of your perfect camera/lens until reality disappoints you :)

Finally: Hot rumor to be posted today on SAR at 3pm London time

The past hours I got final confirmation about a new MAJOR Sony launch. Will now go to work and when I am back post it on SonyAlphaRumors at around 15:00 London time. And just to be clear, this is not a boring ZV or G lens rumor or about the new Sony BC-ZD1 they just announced today  ;)
