Trusted sources have confirmed that the Sony A7V will not be launched until 2025. They did not share reliable specs yet, but a new source shared this information today. Since it’s a new source, the rumor could be completely false. But it is based on the REAL IMX366 sensor, which could indeed be perfect for this camera. The new source wrote:
- The A7 V schedule for early 2025 will finally use Sony the IMX366 44Mp sensor (sensor officially listed here)
- 120 fps 4k no crop
- will cost 3000 euros similar to A7 V.
The Sony A7IV was announced in October 2021 and had a price tag of 2799 Euro (now it’s 2200 Euro at Amazon). So I think it’s likely the price will be close to 3000 Euro.
As I told you at the beginning of this article, the source is new, so do not hold me responsible for this. However, if I may guess, I think it is possible that the sensor will be included in the A7V. The official features listed by Sony are:
- 35mm full size back-illuminated CMOS image sensor
- Input clock frequency 74.25 MHz
- All-pixel readout mode *
Horizontal/vertical 2/2-line binning
Vertical 1/3 subsampling horizontal 3 binning
Vertical 1/9 subsampling horizontal 3 binning
- Window readout function
- Rolling shutter function moving picture mode
- All-pixel simultaneous reset supported
- Electronic first curtain shutter
- H driver, V driver and serial communication circuit on chip
- +27dB gain in CDS/PGA on chip
- Built-in 11-bit/12-bit/13-bit/14-bit A/D converter
- 16 Lane SLVS-EC interface (2 LINK)
- R, G, B primary color mosaic filter on chip
So what do you think, would an increase to 44MP be justified?
