Is it true or wishful thinking? Will DJI launch a new mirrorless camera to compete more directly with Sony, Canon and Nikon?

Two trusted sources have told me that DJI may announce something big in September. They themselves don’t know exactly what to expect, but they have a feeling that it could be some sort of new mirrorless product that will compete more directly against Sony/Canon/Nikon.
I trust these sources, so I think DJI may indeed have something new in store. But we still don’t know WHAT to expect. It could be a new full-frame mirrorless camera, a new video-focused camera, or some kind of fixed-lens full-frame model…we just don’t know yet.

Now, I personally love the idea of a new full-frame camera for mirrorless systems from DJI. I like it so much that I even created a tentative website called dji-rumors.com. If the rumor turns out to be wrong, I will kill the website, while if it is true I will put all the rumors and news I get on this new website.

The reason why I would like DJI to join the mirrorless world are the following:

  1. It would break the monopoly of the Japanese mirrorless “culture” that has the same “conservative” idea of hardware/software.
  2. DJI might finally do what Canon/Sony/Nikon have not done: Easy and intuitive cameras for normal humans to use, with built-in connectivity for sharing content on social networks, support for APPs, and so on!
  3. In general, this may bring some excitement within the whole market so that overall sales will increase.

Lie I told you before, I am NOT certain there will be really a new DJI mirrorless system coming in September. But let me know in the comments system what your thoughts are about this!

In any case, if you happen to know more about this DJI launch please drop me a message using this contact box or at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Thanks!

WILD RUMOR: Will Sony announce an updated 400mm f/2.8 lens in 2025

A source just told me that Sony plans to announce a new updated version of the current 400mm f/2.8 GM lens. Apparently the aim is to make it better than the competition like the Nikon 400mm 2.8. The lens was announce back in 2018 so an update is certainly possible to happen in 2025.

If sources have more info about this (or any other product launch) please drop me a message using this contact box or at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Thanks!

Sony announcement on August 28! We will get the new 85mm f/1.4 GM II

According to multiple trusted sources Sony will have a product announcement event on August 28. For sure we are getting the new Sony 85mmf /1.4 GM II I already leaked in my previous posts.

Sources did not get any info about possible additional products coming on that day. So for now it seems this is all we are getting. The same sources told me that right after we should get a new FX camera (likely FX9 successor) and a new 24-70mm f/2.0 GM lens. After that the first Alpha camera which is definitely NOT the Sony A7V ;)

First leaked images of the new Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM II lens!

My trusted sources tell me that in late August Sony will announce the new 85mm f/1.4 GM II lens. And finally there is a first leaked image of the lens!

As you can see from these low-resolution images, the lens has a new customizable button, a new rubber ring over the aperture marks. It looks like the lens may be a bit shorter than the old 85mm f/1.4 GM from 7 years ago. Reliable sources have told me that the lens is also lighter and certainly much improved optically.

Soon after the announcement of the Sony 85mm GM we will have a new Sony FX camera, a new 24-70mm f/2.0 and a new Alpha Full Frame E-mount camera. So stay tuned to SAR:… there will be fun to be had!

Sigma will announce a new 28-105mm f/2.8 lens in early September!

I have an exclusive rumor to share today! Multiple trusted sources confirmed that in early September we are getting the following new lens:

  • Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 ART Full Frame autofocus lens for Sony E and Leica L cameras

This has the potential to become a very popular lens like the Canon 24-105mm f/2.8. Yes, the Canon has a much more useful 24mm at the wide end but I have been told the Sigma weights less, is more compact and more importantly much cheaper!

I hope to get some images of this lens soon. If you happen to find some images please contact me at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com or use this contact box.

That said, what do you think about this lens?

Will you consider ot buy the new Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 lens?

Next set of WILD Sony A7V specs: 44MP, 4k120p, price close to 3000 Euro

Trusted sources have confirmed that the Sony A7V will not be launched until 2025. They did not share reliable specs yet, but a new source shared this information today. Since it’s a new source, the rumor could be completely false. But it is based on the REAL IMX366 sensor, which could indeed be perfect for this camera. The new source wrote:

  • The A7 V schedule for early 2025 will finally use Sony the IMX366 44Mp sensor (sensor officially listed here)
  • 120 fps 4k no crop
  • will cost 3000 euros similar to A7 V.

The Sony A7IV was announced in October 2021 and had a price tag of 2799 Euro (now it’s 2200 Euro at Amazon). So I think it’s likely the price will be close to 3000 Euro.

As I told you at the beginning of this article, the source is new, so do not hold me responsible for this. However, if I may guess, I think it is possible that the sensor will be included in the A7V. The official features listed by Sony are:

  • 35mm full size back-illuminated CMOS image sensor
  • Input clock frequency 74.25 MHz
  • All-pixel readout mode *
    Horizontal/vertical 2/2-line binning
Vertical 1/3 subsampling horizontal 3 binning
Vertical 1/9 subsampling horizontal 3 binning
  • Window readout function
  • Rolling shutter function moving picture mode
  • All-pixel simultaneous reset supported
  • Electronic first curtain shutter
  • H driver, V driver and serial communication circuit on chip
  • +27dB gain in CDS/PGA on chip
  • Built-in 11-bit/12-bit/13-bit/14-bit A/D converter
  • 16 Lane SLVS-EC interface (2 LINK)
  • R, G, B primary color mosaic filter on chip

So what do you think, would an increase to 44MP be justified?
