First leaked image of the new Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 GII E-mount lens!

Tamron will soon announce a new updated version of their current Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 lens. Here is an optical comparison:

UPDATE: This is the press text:

Tamron, announces the development of the Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 (Model A065), a fast-aperture telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.

The Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 G2 marks the further evolution of the first-generation model that earned high acclaim in the marketplace and incorporates several enhancements. Leading the list of improvements of the new G2 lens is the incorporation of Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism. The lens maintains the maneuverability of class-leading compact size and weight while enabling shooting with greater stability.

The optical design has been revamped from the first-generation 70-180mm F/2.8 and achieves uncompromising high image quality across the entire zoom range. Tamron also shortened the MOD (Minimum Object Distance) at the wide end to 0.3m compared to the first-generation 0.85m, enabling users to enjoy unique photographic expressions distinctive to the lens.

Additionally, the new 70-180mm F/2.8 G2 zoom features Tamron’s renowned VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism enabling high-speed, high-precision auto-focusing that performs well whether shooting stills or video. The new 70-180mm F/2.8 G2 zoom also supports the dedicated Tamron Lens Utility™ and Tamron Lens Utility Mobile™ apps that were developed in-house by Tamron. The software can be used to customize functions based on various shooting styles for still photography and video. The new lens design improves operability and provides scratch resistance. This single lens combines profound maneuverability and practicality that is worthy of the second-generation G2 badge and will deliver shooting experiences that make a fast-aperture telephoto zoom lens even more enjoyable.

Product Highlights
  • Even with VC image stabilization, the lens is just 156.5mm long and weighs only 855g
  • Revamped optical design delivers truly superb performance at all focal lengths
  • VXD provides high-speed and high-precision AF with vastly improved subject tracking
  • Equipped with Tamron’s proprietary VC mechanism
  • Achieves MOD of 0.3m at 70mm and 0.85m at 180mm
  • Proprietary software tool Tamron Lens Utility for lens function customization

First rumors about a new GM lens coming along the new A7cII

One new source told me that Sony will also announce a new GM lens along the A7cII (Note: Still don’t know if A7cII and A7cR will be announced both on the same day or not).

The source didn’t want to get into any trouble and therefore didn’t share the specs of the lens. But he said the lens is ideal as a “gimbal” lens. Which leads me to believe this might be the new 16-35mm GM II. What do you think?

SUPER WILD RUMOR: First Sony A9III specs, 29MP ultra fast sensor and body with integrated grip

This is a totally unverified rumor and comes from an anonymous source. This means there is a high chance this rumor might be wrong. All I know from trusted sources is that the A9III is definitely coming in the November-January timeframe and that it’s going to be the fastest camera on market. But they shared no detailed specs so far.

So just for the sake of fun, clickbait (LOL) and discussion, read this spec list and tell me what you think about it:

I was briefed on features of the new A9III:
The name isn’t final, but it will be marketed specifically to professional sports shooters and will NOT replace the A1 as Sony’s flagship. Video specs will be similar to the A7IV (no 8K, no external raw) but will feature several ultra-high fps modes.
Lots of new pro features.

Completely new body with built in vertical grip, will use 2x FZ100  batteries that can be independently swapped without turning the camera off (unlike the sled from current battery grip).
Additional custom buttons and switches (source suggested that both top dials would have lower control rings, and one would be customizable).
3.4″ tilting ultra-bright “dual-touch” screen that will allow use with gloves and when wet.
Dual CF-A/SD slots and compatible with saving directly to SSD via USB.
Source said a “cutting edge” sensor cleaning and dust/water prevention system will be featured, but details are still very secret even within Sony.

New BIONZ processor to support enhanced AF.
29MP sensor with global electronic shutter with no mechanical shutter.
Ultra fast start-up speed.
120fps full-res HEIF for 2s burst (limited by sensor memory). Source hinted that a 240fps reduced MP mode has been proposed to counter Z9.
60fps full-res HEIF/compressed raw with large buffer.
30fps uncompressed/compressed-lossless raw.
5.76MM dot HDR EVF with 240hz dynamic refresh, which will vary the refresh rate for battery saving.
Car/motorcycle AF tracking mode.
240 AF calculations per second (4x A9II).
2200 AF points with 100% coverage.
960fps cropped 1080p, 480fps oversampled 1080p, and 240fps (cropped) 4k S&Q.

Enhanced voice-to-text metadata writing with built in GPS/GLONASS/BeiDou/QZSS.
5G cellular and improved wifi speeds with port for external long-range wifi antenna.
5GBASE-T Ethernet port.

Sony source shared some Nikon ZF specs: 46Mp and $1999?

A source that shared the correct Sony ZV-1F specs in the past shared some details about the Nikon ZF (watch my video above). This camera wants to appeal to photographers that love to own a camera with a more “classic” look. This puts it into direct competition with the soon to be announced Sony A7cII and A7cR that have will tap into the same pool of photographers. If the rumors specs are correct I hope Sony will take note of this and also price the new A7c camera at a competitive price!

First leaked images of the new Sony compact Venice camera

As you know for months I told you that some sort of compact cine camera would be announced by Sony. And finally a Reddit user spotted this image of this camera on the set of a new Hollywood movie about F1 with Brad Pitt as main actor. YMcinema spotted more images of the 6K Venice camera:

There are no detailed specs of the camera. As soon as I have more I will share it on SAR. Stay tuned!
