Sony’s EASTEREGG hints at a new autofocus feature?

Our readers were wondering what’s the meaning of that 3D dotted map in Sony’s teaser. Knowing that the Sony A9III could(!) be announced on November 8th, and that it is rumored ot have the world’s best AF than this might be related to some kind of new in depth tracking features. Which would surely makes sense for a camera that has to track subjects in sports and midlife photography.

One of our readers did go so far to think that the 3D dots hear resemble that of a LIDAR mapping system!

Just speculation for now folks…hopefully we will learn more about this the next days!

YESSS! Sony officially teases a “SPECIAL EVENT” on November 8/9

  • Sony 300mm f/2.8 GM (99% chance this is coming)
  • Sony A9III with new stacked sensor and world’s fastest AF and fps (70% chance this ic coming)

First unconfirmed Sony A9III specs: Same A1 body, 33MP and 40fps

Around November 7 Sony will have a major product announcement event. It’s near certain we are going to get the final 300mm f/2.8 GM lens specs and pricing info. I am still not 100% certain about the A9III but I think the chances are very good the camera will be announced on that very same event. Also the A1 firmware update could be launched on that day.

All I know form trusted sources is that the A9III uses a new stacked sensor to make it the world’s fastest FF camera. The more detailed specs I am receiving are not from my long time trusted sources so while I am going to share some of them today keep in mind I am yet not 100% sure about this:

  • Nearly same A1 body
  • 33-36MP sensor
  • no 8K
  • 40fps 12 bit RAW
  • 30fps 14 bit RAW

Have some fun with this wild rumor: 126MP Sony three layer sensor :)

Super wild rumors from a new source report that Sony has a new 126 MP prototypes sensor which uses Foveon-type CMOS. He added that  “there will be 40, 83, and 42 MP as well”

I am sure Sony is working on many kind of different techs and has prototypes of this in their labs. But it might take years before we see these kind of sensors in a real mass production camera.

Sony will announce the new 300mm f/2.8 GM and probably the Sony A9III on November 7/8

I now have MANY sources confirming Sony will have a product announcement event around November 7/8. One of my trusted sources said there is very likely going to be the final 300mm f/2.8 GM announcement. I still don’t have a confirmation for the A9III announcement but at this point I think it’s highly likely we will get the A9III too. This is rumored to become the world’s fastest Full Frame camera. Hope to get some A9III specs soon!

Some hope Sony might re-launch the RX1 lineup?

Sony made a private survey among professional Alpha Shooters asking what specs they would love to see on a new RX1 Full Frame Fixed lens camera. This is by no means evidence such a camera will be made for real. But I think there is a small market for this. Leica is selling a ton of their Q3 cameras (See article on MR). And maybe making a sort of RX camera that has a more appealing design and definitely lower pricing than the Q3 would make sense?
