Finally I have solid confirmation about the first Sony Alpha announcement of the year! Two trusted sources confirmed we are getting new gear soon. One of the sources told me it’s going to happened in mid February. Usually Sony does announce gear on a Wednesday, if they keep this pattern than it’s likely we are having a new announcement on February 14th.

What to expect?
Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 G: One of the sources confirmed that we are getting the Sony 24-50mm f/2.8 G. That’s the only product where I have 100% confirmation.

What might be announced too:
Sony A1 and A7sIII firmware update too (still to be confirmed)
Sony 16-25mm f/2.8 G: I do believe it’s likely we might get a new 16-25mm f/2.8 G too. The reason for that is that a youtuber did “leak” this info by mistake for a very short time:

So unless he truly made a “Mistake” or wanted to “fool” us than I do believe this lens is coming too.

What’s unlikely to be announced:
Sony ZV-E10II: I am sure it will be on market in Spring time but I got no evidence as of yet it will be announced in mid-February
Sony A7sIV: I got no evidence on this camera and moreover Sony did not register any new Alpha camera model in China. While this is not a 100% accurate pattern…usually Sony China does register new cameras 2-3 months ahead of their announcement.
Sony 85mm f/1.4 GMII: I got confirmation this lens will be in Stock by early summer. But no info as of yet when the actual announcement will happen.

CRAZY RUMOR: Early January a new source told me Sony would announce two new f/2.8 G zooms soon and that there would be some CRAZY WOW gear after that. So even if you don’t care about those G zooms you have to keep your fingers crossed these are coming for real in mid February. If that is going to happen expect me to share some exciting rumors soon after ;)

CRAZY DEAL: There is a new $400 discount on the Sony 2TB card sold at Amazon US, BHphoto and Adorama!!!

Confirmed releases from Viltrox:

• Viltrox AF40mm f/2.5
  
• Viltrox AF56mm f/1.7
• Viltrox AF135mm f/1.8
  

Unconfirmed releases from other manufacturers:

• Sigma and Tamron patented f/2.0 zooms. Could be coming in 2024.

A German youtuber just posted a video where he says he bought the new Sony A6700 camera because he now has to review “something” that will be announced for this camera soon.

He didn’t mention the brand name but he often reviews both Sigma and Sony gear right before the announcement. My guess (guess and not rumor!) is that Sigma will announce a new APS-C lens in early February. Hope to get some solid info on this soon!

P.S.: Trusted sources told me a Sigma announcement is scheduled for early February!

Just a quick update on the 85mm GMII lens rumor. As you know I wasn’t sure about the aperture of the new 85GM lens. Now one of my sources is certain that it’s going to have the same f/1.4 aperture of the current 85GM. Other sources also confirmed both the 85GM and ZV-E10II are coming the first half of this year.

To wrap up what we know so far from trusted sources:

• 85mm f/1.4 GM II coming in Spring
• ZV-E10II coming this spring
• New FX camera also coming (not announcement date yet)

UPDATE: Like I told you previously no trusted sources had confirmed an announcement for today. So we have to wait a bit longer to get the real lens announcement. But here comes an interesting note:

For a short moment a Youtuber uploaded a video with the title naming these two lenses (see screenshot on top):

• 24-50mm f/2.8 G
• 16-25mm f/2.8 G

I did hide the name of the channel….we don’t want to get him into any in trouble.

P.S.: What’s 100% confirmed via trusted sources is that Sigma will have an announcement in early February.

Right now a readers sent me a “leak” of two new lenses that are coming soon…possibly even in the next 48 hours:

• 16-25mm f/2.8 G
• 24-50mm f/2.8 G

To protect the source I cannot share the “leak” I got today.  But I can share a HUGE teaser!

Two week ago a NEW source sent me info about these two f/2.8 G zooms but also an additional info about a CRAZY WOW product. I didn’t post this on SAR because obviously I don’t like to post those kind of SUPER WOW rumors without at least some shred of rational hope. But if these two lenses will be indeed announced that it’s reasonable enough to believe there is a fair chance that crazy part will become true too! So here is the deal, if these lenses will be announced (possibly this week) than a couple of days after I will share that crazy part of the rumor. And yes, this is a kind of rumor that will make you talk about it the whole year…even A LOT more exciting than the Sony A9III buzz :)

Through trusted sources, I can now confirm with certainty that we will get the new ZV-E10II before the summer. I have not yet received an exact announcement date… but I suspect we’ll see the new camera sometime between February and April.

The sources haven’t revealed any details yet, so we can only speculate on the specs. My best guess:

• Maybe same A6700 sensor
• New AI features
• Price around $899 (current ZV-E10 sells for $699).

Curiosity: The current ZV-E10 is still the best selling mirrorless camera at Amazon US.

To recap: We should get a new E-mount cine camera first, followed by the new ZV-E10II vlogger camera. But just like last year, we expect more interesting Alpha bodies to be announced after the ZV announcement. See this screenshot of the 2023 announcement from Dpreview:

I don’t have anything solid yet about those Alpha bodies but my guess is that the A7sIV is coming next…some times after the ZV-E10II announcement.
