Next totally wild Sony A7sIV rumors: 24Mp, 4k60p sensor and price around $3,000

I told you before that I still have no confirmation about the announcement time of the A7sIV. All I know for sure is that at least two new Full Frame camera(s) will be announced in Q3 (July-September).

To not let you get bored I am going to share a rumor I got from a new source. With “new” I mean that I have no clue yet if he is telling me the truth or not. So if you decide to go ahead and read and discuss this don’t hold me accountable :)

The “source” told me this:

The A7SIV is already in development and its features are now very different than the previous generation A7SIII and lower product positioning (more video-oriented A7IV) with lower pricing (2,799 to 3,099 USD).
The A7SIV utilizes a newly developed 24MP Exmor R sensor, which supports 4K/60p in full-frame 6K oversampling and 4K/120p in Super 35mm, and offers uncropped 4K/120p with pixel-binning sampling at slightly lower image quality.
Interestingly, the A7SIV does away with the well-received 9.44M-dot EVF in the A7SIII and replaces it with a 3.69M-dot EVF. Body stabilization has been upgraded to 8 stops and supports all new digital stabilization features.
The A7SIV will be available after July 2024 exactly.

The totally weird part of this rumor would be that it uses a 3.69M dot EVF instead of the current 9.44M dot EVF of the A7sIII. There are two possible explanation for this:

  1. This rumor is completely BS
  2. The 3.69M dot EVF has some kind of other advantages like crazy refresh rate or so

My “feeling” is that this is BS…

World’s first f/1.8 AF FF zoom: First leak image of the new Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 lens

On June Sigma will announce the world’s first Full Frame Autofocus zoom lens veer made. It’s the Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN ART. I don’t know the pricing of the lens but I got a first image and also the info about the weight: Just barely under 1kg. Filter size is 82mm.
This is a sort of Full Frame version of the epic 18-35mm f/1.8 APS-C lens that in FF terms was a 27-54mm f/2.75 lens. The new FF lens will be shorter at the tele end but also be truly much faster. What do you think about this lens?

Sony FX9 successor coming in late summer. After that the A7sIV and 1/2 more “photo oriented” cameras?

According to trusted sources there is a fair chance that the next FX camera might be a new Sony FX9 successor. It could be announced in late summer. This is not the only Full Frame camera we will get in 2024. This is the rumored roadmap:

  • Sort of FX9 successor coming in late Summer
  • New Alpha camera body in late Summer (August/September). Could be the A7sIV but this is not confirmed yet.
  • New Alpha camera body in October/November
  • Small chance there might another Sony camera in November (to be confirmed)

If you happen to know more details about those cameras drop me a message at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com or use this anonymous contact box. Thanks!

So far I got a couple of unconfirmed rumors about what kind of Alpha cameras we will get. But I still don’t fell comfortable enough to share that info. But it’s clear that Sony’s big announcement will be made between September 2024 and February 2025. All we are getting before is that ZV-E10II that should ship out in August (announcement June/July).

Still, what’s coming soon (possibly June) should be very exciting are the 85mm f/1.4 GMII and the 24-70mm f/2.0 GM. Hope to get some announcement dates soon!

Sony is rumored to launch a 1 inch sensor smartphone named Xperia Pro C

We all wonder if Sony will ever launch a new RX100 camera (I guess not). But rumors are getting stronger about that very same 1 inch sized sensor being used on a new Sony smartphone. Sony insider reports:

There seems to have been a new development on the Xperia Pro series line of smartphones. The phone which is speculated to be called as Xperia Pro C, a successor to the Pro-I, which may also adopt a compact form factor, a stark difference to Sony’s usual 6.5″ displays for its top tier smartphones. Some of the specs which were leaked includes: – A 6.0″ 120 Hz, 2K resolution OLED with Anti- reflection coating. – Snapdragon 8Gen 3 with 12/256 as the base skew, possibly. – 5000 mAh battery with a revamped 45W PD charging. Camera specs include: – 50 MP 1.0″ , 20 MM, f/1.8 with OIS, support for 12 Bit RAW and 14 Bit DCG RAW (maybe an OmniVision sensor). – 12 MP with AF, with support for 4K 120 FPS 10 Bit 420 S -LOG gamma curve and HLG support. Also support for JPG/60 FPS RAW, with AE/AF and support for Sony S-Cine-tone and creative look – 12 MP F 1/2.9″, 20mm, F 2.0 with support for 4K 60 FPS HDR and Sony Creative look.

The Xperia Pro C might be announced in late 2024.

Likely Sony ZV-E10II launch has been slightly delayed: Will be in Stock in August only!

A trusted source contacted me and told me that it seems that the launch of the ZV-E10II is slightly delayed. He does not know the reason for this. He added that it is likely that the ZV-E10II will only be available in August!

This is not the first time this has happened this year, the launch of the 16-25mm G was also delayed by over a month! It was supposed to be announced at the end of February, but was delayed and was announced in mid-April.

The 85mm GM II is still scheduled for launch in June, while I don’t know when the 24-70mm f/2.0 will be announced (it was supposed to be on the market in early summer).

Wild rumors about possible Reasons:
Sony has not announced a camera for more than six months now. But Nikon and Canon have also been silent for a long time. This is the first time I have seen such a long break from announcements by the big three. I have received absolutely unconfirmed rumors about a regulatory reason for the EU market. Maybe it’s related to the new AI law coming up. But that doesn’t make much sense to me, knowing that Fuji keeps announcing new cameras… unless, of course, Fuji makes no use of certain technologies that Sony and other new cameras are supposed to use in these new cameras.

Sony ZV-E10 still selling hot:
On all Japanese sales charts and on Amazon Bestseller list the ZV-E10 is still selling hot. So Sony can afford to introduce the successor a bit later than expected. Maybe Sony scrambled the roadmap in favor of other model that might be announced sooner? The hype on fixed lens camera might convinced Sony to launch a new R1X FF compact fixed lens camera as soon as it gets? But hey folks, that’s just me dreaming and speculating :)
